no not for a cb but a whip antenna that some OHV parks (like Oceano Dunes where I'm headed in a couple weeks) require a whip antenna with a flag on it...I was going to order one of the lighted whips that have the LED's in them and this is the best place I have found...

They are out of a couple colors right now but they are a good price compared to the other sites...

So either that or just get a regular one and put that money into some aux. lighting up front (I'm getting that either way but still)....so what do you all think? Having the lighted antenna seems like it'd help out in the safety department but for $100 iono if its worth it.

Just wanted some input...

guess it would depend on weather or not it saved you from getting run into on weather it was worth the $100.

Yeah thats kind of why I was asking...although I've been to the dunes many times this will be the first time with my truck and I know there are a handfull of guys on here that go to Oceano, Glamis, the desert, etc...

go to your local bicycle shop. they usually have them for kids bikes, and they're not nearly as expensive.

most likely not... I was born in '89

Ok guys so it sounds like its a waste of money so I'll just run by one of the local dirtbike/quad shops and grab a regular 6' whip antenna with a flag and get it mounted up for the trip...

I would have everything ready for it then leave it in the bed. If you drive more than 5 mile's the flag will be torn beyond repair driving 50+ mph. I had a hole with a nut on mine since it had a bolt on the bottom. Worked good. But I left it on one day driving around town , and it was toast and had to but a new one on my next wheelin trip. Just some friendly advice.

yeah thats what I meant...just have the mount all ready and just unscrew the whip...

i do not like the whip - i am into rock crawling and i have seen them whip the spoter or others trying others help (dam the people standing on the top of the hill you are trying to get up)

Whips weren't designed for rock, they were designed for dunes. At the dunes, ain't nobody standing within reach.:haha:

avery....didnt i see a picture where your truck had a cb whip on the bumper? why not just tie a red rag onto it...or is that "not allowed" or hell just buy the lttle flag part and duct tape it on when yuo get there...

Yeah I run a 102" SS whip for my CB but if I add any weight on the top and go over like 10mph the antenna starts swaying all over the place...

I bought one at Angelos that has a light on the end for like $35 a couple of years ago. I put it on my wifes quad and only use it that weekend. Suprisingly enough the shops out there dont rape you for parts any more than they do here. When are you going to Pismo? I was out there last weekend, night mare! My generator wouldnt stay running, I blew up my quad 300 yards from camp (shake down run after spending $2,800 to get it back in action  ) and didnt go out in the dunes once! I was mainly out there for my daughters softball tournament in Santa Maria. Wheather was nice though.

Yeah Angelos and a couple other shops have parts but since they are designed to go in the mounts on quads I need to get it before I go in case I need to machine up a little mount for it and weld it on my bumper...

I was thinking of just machining a cylinder and welding it on my bumper...then just drill and tap two holes 90* off of eachother for two set screws then when I get there slide the whip in and tighten the set screws but when I'm not using it I'd just have that little cylinder welded on the bumper...

Uhhhh well we're actually going twice...once in two weeks (Friday night through Sunday afternoon) then then again at the end of July for a weekend...the first time we go (in a couple weeks) we're staying in a hotel (our whole family is staying in a house that week but my dad can't get the time off work so we're just going for the weekend to see them) and then the second time we're going we are staying on the beach in a trailer and taking my truck...

Hopefully I can meet some of you guys out there and you can show me the ropes...I'm still not sure what I'll have on my truck...either what I run now (35" BFG AT's and 4.10's) or if I get enough money saved up I'll get the 5.13's installed and put my 38.5's back on...either way I'll be there...
