I bought a new truck, an 8.1 LT Suburban 2wd. Going to be the new tow rig, and will allow me to do the bigger updates the 77. She has 137k on the clock. Exterior is fair clean, the "chrome" door accent has peeling clear cover, paint is all good. Windshield has nice long winding crack, and tires are old an cracked. Inspecting at sale, was easy to see that it is mostly original, under the hood. I also saw that the hydro boost had been cleaned, and sure enough it is leaking from the front seal.
immediate plan is tires, need to decide 245 75r16 original size or 265 75r16 current size. New coolant hoses, inspect rear heater and lines, replace hydra boost, Taylor 10.4 mm spark plug wires and new plugs, trans service, oil change. Am considering replacing the crank sensor just be cause.

Found a receipt from a Gm dealer in CA. The fuel pump and module were replaced in 2013, at 110k miles. has gone 27k in 9 years.

I know the 8.1's have plenty of torque but being a 2wd tow rig, I'd go with the smaller size tire to help out with the gearing. Then put a nice shiny whistle pig on it.

Is the only option I was hoping for and didn't get. Is 3.73 wanted the 4.10.
I wouldn't hesitate on the 265s if it were the 4.10

For sure I’d go smaller tire then. Or you could lift and go to 35’s and regear with some 5.13’s. Pretty cheap to do just one axle.

Reading the service bulletin in 8.1 thread gm part number 12561518 the intake bolts are no longer available, and summit intake bolt search returned "0" results.
I suppose since the originals problem seemed to be long bolts I could grind them a little shorter.

This truck is pissing me off. Many attempts to program the Home link garage door opener no joy.
I bought 2 new key fobs, can't get the truck to go into learn mode.
I know it has keyless entry, I have 1 working fob cam with truck.
Am wondering if there was a software update the internet doesn't know about, that change the steps to enter into programing mode.

Right after posting, I was closing up to try another day. Rolled up the front windows, is 102 out at 9:30 pm. I'm like F it and give it another try, the MFer goes into program mode just like it's supposed to. Reprogram all 3 fobs old and new. Amazon cheapy fob programed no problem, see if they stay synced.

The home link can be a pain. Dad’s Vette would never learn their gate but every other Chevy learned it with no issues.

For some reason when I read this all I could picture was Clark Griswold out in the front yard having just finished kicking all the reindeer, when he grabs the two cords and the sparks fly and the whole place lights up :saweet:

Got the new rig in the shop today, had Sidelight put a new windshield yesterday. pulled some plastic covers and the air inlet tube. found about what I was expecting.
old hoses every where. and then a leak at the cross over.
I hadn't planned on doing the water pump or radiator but am getting the MAW feeling right now.
