White Elephant 01 8.1 burb.

Low coolant light came on the other day, added @1/4 gl. I knew I had a minor seepage at the rear intake. I decided it was time to reseal the intake today.
Minor seepage is not the culprit, Aug of 22 new AC Delco water pump failed.

Now I am eyeballing that front crank seal thinking it needs replacing, 24 years old 157k miles. Then its I wonder hat the timing chain looks like?
I'd be willing to bet that timing chain does not look like a mini skirt on a 400 lb gal.

Cloyes makes a timing set for the 8.1. Just fyi. If you decide to go that deep.

We stuffed that set in my latest 8.1 and to the surprise of both Larry and I the new set wasn’t significantly tighter than the old set we took off. But we had it, the cover was off so we put it on. More peace of mind than anything.

Haven't been able to work on the burb much, did some parts cleaning pulled the dampener yesterday for new seal.

Today I removed more egr tubing and replace the crank sensor.

Seems i had an updated sensor already.
Got new front crank seal in,but have to wait to install dampener, no installer. Crank bolt is 16mm x 1.5 my tool is 16mm x 2.0.
Got 1 valve cover on.
Now off to a drive in movie Cars in the dune buggy.

"Now off to a drive in movie Cars in the dune buggy." :) THAT sounds like fun. :)

Got a few solid hours in last night. Cooling system is complete again. When installing fan I noticed a slight rub on bottom of shroud, guess thats why the pump gave up so soon. Motor mounts must be sagging.
New ones otw from RA $20 ea whole ssle close out. The chain stores want 105ea:yikes:695aa012-12ae-429b-a9e1-25cde0d6c262 (1).jpg

The ones at the chain stores MUST be gold plated ;)

Hopefully they're better than the current crop of square body motor mounts.

Think these will bein this trucks future

Yep it probably comes from the same manufacturer. But some people believe that more expensive must be better, so other people exploit that misguided belief.
I have used that belief before, I had something priced too low nobody asked, I raised the price to normal and people were fighting over it.

I had the exact same experience.
A 63 vw bug was $600 and only one looker, who said there must be something wrong, because it's too cheap, and walked away. I set the price at $1300 and sold it that day. Go figure.
But there ARE certain things that you get what you pay for.

Been a minute. Buddy came over Tuesday, and help me set the intake. Got it torqued down, 107 lb in doesn't seem like enough.
Yesterday out inbthe shop 7am and buttoned everything else up. Modify heat new style shield for ac sensor clearance.
Charge ac. Atempt to renew oil cooler connectors. Wrong part sourced.

I put a new o ring in the originals. Fingers crossed.
Oil change, 4.5 gal of fresh coolant.
Crank sensor relearn.
Runs much quieter than before with correct push rods.

Someone put the wrong ?length push rods in ?

Gm put the wrong shape push rods in.20250317_063723.jpg
The old exhaust rods were contacting the rocker at full lift.
Gm has a tsb on it. It's in the 8.1 sticky thread in engine room section

I will check it out. The radiator connector has a large shield around ìt. I do have dome of those.
I did find the correct part number. Just none available.

I don't know if this helps you, but I did a post on the various oil cooler fittings, which changed in '03: https://ck5.com/forums/threads/quadrasteer-8-1l-suburban-tow-rig.339146/post-4078677

It seems like you're mixing block connectors with radiator connectors.

Very confusing. Gm parts Gaint screen shots

Top connector I have it is 5/8. You click on part and it shows trans cooler line?

Does the Allison have 5/8" trans cooler lines ?
The 4l80e doesn't.
The bottom connector matches what I have, haven found that part number.
I need to check but new o rings seem to be working.
15mm id x 2.5mm dia
