Who all has broken a tranny case??

I was replacing a motor in my k5 and broke the bell housing on a th350. It was cool other than getting a little aggravated. I got it welded up, never new they were alum. always thought they were cast. Anyhow I feel like a dumb a$$ but wanted to see who all on here had busted one on an install?

I busted one on an install and 3 while abusing my junk.

I've broken two th350 cases from abuse, never broke one on an install. Broken a 465/205 adapter too.

The one I broke while installing was while a friend was helping me. He was looking at the dowl pin on the drivers side, I was looking at the dowl pin on the passenger side. We thought they were lined up, started tightening the bolts and "POP" an ear broke off on the driver side. Oh well, we TIGed the ear back on and learned from our mistake. Since then I have done about 60 transmission installs with no problems.

Sounds to familiar. Mine just cracked and nothing came off. Lesson learned here too. At least I hope, I will see how it goes on the next go around.

I split a 700R4 in half once, never had to undo a single bellhousing bolt to pull that one... Worked until it bled out too! I split it in half due to the frame flexing too much while crawling out of a nasty mud hole

Never broke a tranny case but my transfer case cracked the day I pulled the half ton running gear out of it and replaced it with 3/4 ton stuff...

Had to get it welded up. It still leaks though, I am a little concerned!

Never broken a trans, although ive beat the th350 in my 77 and she hasnt gave yet!

I've broken ( 3 ) T-400 cases.....all of them at the tail-shaft end....
