I'm talking about those of us that train hard all year long. I'm an archery hunter so I get more time to hunt than most. Just curious who lifts, runs, shoots day in day out?

Im Far from Hardcore at least not yet, The future is unknown. I am however getting into hunting now. My dad didn't have time when i was a kid to teach me a whole lot of the things i think i should know so im taking myself now as a young adult. I just bought a hunting pack and got a hunting license as well as a deer tag for the mountains i normally go into for my shooting and camping trips so i know the area well already. Season opens at the end of next month so i bought 2 pig tags to get my hunting skills up before i take a deer. I'm most worried about being able to effectively process the animal after i take it so i figure if i waste a couple of pigs on my learning curve its far better than wasting a good Deer. D

Anyways i dont want to clutter up your thread too much so i'll shut up, But do you normally hunt alone or with others? I'm planning on going alone unless i manage to find someone who wants to go.

Well where I grew up, there was no hunting season, you could hunt 24/7/365.
So I hunted in the morning before school, and later before work as well as in the evening when I came back home.
Never had time to train.:D
I haven't been hunting since I came to the us twelve years ago but that will soon change. I bought my first shot gun here and will be gttong my license soon

The area i'll be deer hunting is right next to you in deer zone D3-5 which basically covers a bunch of the eldorado and Tahoe National forest. Some of my favorite mountains in CA. That is if i understand these deer tag rules correctly, Its confusing as hell :dunno:.

I hunt every year for antelope, deer and elk. Use to bow hunt but haven't lately (last 5 years).
I'm all for staying in shape, especially leading up to hunting season. here in Colorado, if you don't have good cardio you will find out real fast when it comes to hiking around at 10-12k/ft elevations.

I haven't been to a gym to lift in about a year when I found I have a tear in a disc in my back. I did about 60 days of P90x for something to do earlier this year but as of now I haven't done anything physical since May/Jun. Been too busy finishing school, work, home projects, vehicle projects, and traveling. I've been threatening to get back at it but haven't committed yet.

I WISH I could do nothing but train and concentrate on hunting/fishing every day. Every year, I try to get after some Javalina, Deer, Elk, Dove, Quail...and most years I try to get out and do some ocean fishing, fish for trout, try to get after some Turkey....and I always apply but haven't been drawn for antelope. These activities, after all, are the main reason for the K5.

I have always hunted with others in the past. The last couple of years I went through quite a bit of personal reflection. At the end of last year, when my 5 year old asked me, "is it hunting season yet dad?". I made a decision to rely on no one else as a hunter/hunting partner. I have a partner for this year. It we both are in the same boat. We wear out field partners in a hurry with our full tilt brush beating attitude. We are both training and scouting with the mindset that due to schedules we may be on our own also.

You have to start somewhere. My dad taught me how to get around in the brush and hunt how he knew. He wasn't a successful hunter though and my abilities have surpassed his in the last few years. That being said, I have yet to stick an animal with my bow. 9 years of stick slinging has been more enjoyable than all the years growing up with a rifle in hand. We see animals probably 95% of the days out. The more time you spend in the brush, the better you'll be. Keep at it!

ive been a avid hunter since i was legal to do so. even before i would go with my dad and his friends just for the experience. Still hunt every chance i can get whether it is upland birds, ducks/geese, deer, elk, cougar, bear, antelope. but due to our increasingly hard to draw areas i have to do the general tags or go out of state. ive been to montana elk/deer hunting and wyoming once also. got a nice 5x5 in wyoming and will go again this year. is good to know that others on here enjoy doing the same hobbies outside of truck building as i do.

That's awesome. I want to come to Cali for some pig hunting. Next year I plan on an Idaho elk hunt. The wife's Yukon just lost a tranny so I won't be able do Idaho this year. Funds will be pretty low by the end of September

I wouldnt say that Im hardcore but sometimes my wheeling funds get dipped into for my archery habit. I try to shoot my bow at least once a week and in the 4-6 weeks leading up to opening day Ill shoot 200-300 shots a week with 20-30 seconds of holding at full draw between shots to make sure Im strong enough and steady enough when the time comes.

When I get desperate for meat Ill pull out the rifle. I dont hunt for trophies and it is fairly easy to kill deer around here with a rifle so I usually try to fill my tags with a string and stick for the challenge and experience.

Killed my first deer with a bow about 3 years ago after hunting for nearly 10. This year Ill be buying my first new bow since I got my current one 10 years ago and Ill be going after a bear and some pigs for the first time so Im fairly excited about archery season this year.

Im not big into traveling for hunts, the expense is fairly high for the animals I want to go after but hopefully sometime in the next few years Ill be able to get out of Arkansas a little bit.

Not hardcore....yet, I came into (~250) acres of private land surrounded by thousand of acres of unhunted farmland. I haven't hunted in 10+ years so I got a buddy involved in managing the land last year to get it ready for this season and boy are we ready. I've already started setting my alarm for 5am to get in the routine.

Glad to hear there is a few bowhunters here. Opening weekend was Saturday for elk here in Oregon. I went out Sunday and hiked into an area we've been checking on google earth. Over 2k in elevation change 5+ miles in with no vehicles. We came in from the bottom on foot and didn't see anyone else till the 4.5 mile. We were classing a clear cut and saw two guys that had biked in from the gate at the top. Lots of big country, but know tone this weekend. 3.5 more days and I'll be back sleeping in the timber listening for the scream of a horny bull elk! Love it!

Opening day today (gun), just got home from my morning sit. Let 2 doe walk this morning, nothing with a rack walked by, gonna sit in another stand this afternoon and see what I can see.

Headed into the wilderness for the last week of the season. When the sun rose this morning, the mountains were full of smoke! 12 miles of trudging and only one Elk track. Guess I'm headed back to the coast range for the next 6 days!
