So I'm stripping the paint on my Suburban and discovered that the upper part of the tail gate opening is actually a fiberglass piece. I feel like I knew that, but it still surprised me. I tried to not remove any more paint from it because I don't know what to do with fiberglass or if it's OK to leave it exposed in the wild. @ryoken what're your thoughts? Just hand sand enough to scuff the surface and paint over the old paint? Anyone else with fiberglass experience feel free to comment too.

you can take off as much as you are comfortable with.. a key is to try not having it look like a palomino pony... try to keep it to 2 layers or so, with good featheredging in whatever grit your primer likes.. lessens the chance of cringing..

keep in mind, it is a soft substrate, not steel, you bear into it with a DA or similar, and you'll make it wavy... I've seen guys destroy boats with a DA... x-blocking = good...

always good to be a bit grittier with glass, usually in the 150 to 220 range, depending on what primer I'm using... epoxy or urethane is fine...
