who has a tru trac?

Weird. Looking at the blown up picture of a truetrac. I'm not actually sure how that's even possible to get one tire fire.
 
I wasn't expecting it either. let the clutch out, it just barely rolled about 3 feet. didn't get the clutch back in quick enough. jerked as It got traction.
4700lb truck with 37s.
 
Ok. I'll say it.. IT'S A JEEP! But seriously, it is not a locker and he doesn't know how to make it pull better. If he has a manual trans, then he should use the park brake to modulate it.

That is the issue when it comes to more then easy/moderate off road. It's not a locker! So it has none of the locker bad habits on road, but has some extra traction when snow/mud etc... but if your standing still and want/need both wheels locked? It's not!

The brake trick does work to a point... if your wheelin drum brakes and they are wet muddy, not adjusted well? Well this trick does not help either.

You can physically stomp the pedal as hard as you can and it will still break the "free" tire.



As was said. if you want a little extra traction, go for it. But dont expect much
 
Bringing this back from the dead:

I've had truetrac in two different Dana rears. On the road nothing compares. I've gone out of my way to find my rear tires on different surfaces. From dry pavement on one side and snow covered grass on the other. And floored it. No spin. Just acceleration. I'm in all kinds of snow and ice.

I had the opposite thing happen to me about a month ago with a TT. one tire on hard packed snow. one on wet. only the one on snow spun. :dunno:

If I dump the clutch on dry pavement, will both spin every time?

I'm curious because I've been thinking about changing my rear detroit locker to a truetrac for better road manners but I don't want to sacrifice much offroad traction. Would this be worthwhile?
 
If you have been wheeling with a Detroit locker, then don't go to the truetrac. You will be disappointed with the off road traction.

I like the truetrac for mild stuff, like the OP was asking about.
 
Right about :25 you can see the front spinning the tire with no/little traction:
I'm guessing brake modulation to get it moving again.

Only real cause for concern with the Truetrac IMO. That would be disappointing if you were used to any sort of "real" locker in the rear, even with an open front diff.
 
I have one in the front of my k10, works great and not a single problem, it is on 33s. My buddy has broke 3 rear 12 bolt truetracs with 33s and it was nearly all street or hunting wheeling. The bolts would back out and catch on the housing breaking the carrier to hell. The final one he guilted them into a new one past warranty. He is a AF and PP mech so he safety wired the last one. No problems in 10 years. They told him they aren't warrantied for tires bigger than stock.
 
I think that a lot of the differential companies get out of warranty with that statement. " Not for use with larger than stock tires "
 
Has anybody seen the AAM version of this, called TracRite?

I haven't found many reviews or comparison to the TrueTrac. The traction biasing could be higher or lower, depending on how they cut the gears, but I think we're most curious about strength.

Looks like GM applications are only 30-spline 10-bolt and the 11.5"
