In response to the question about finding the movie "Hooper" I picked up the DVD at Wal Mart for $5.00.

One fine day I jumped my '87 burban about ten times. I kept gettiing the feeling of total weightlessness in mid air. Nothing broke, no carnage. My 6" BDS springs sucked up the landings beautifully, but I still wouldn't make a habit out of it. If you go to www.vttuner.com there is a picture of one of my landings on the home page. If it's not there go to members rides and check out gallery next to BernDogg. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/burb.gif

I don't think I'd try to jump with my K5. I just can't afford to replace what I'd break. Damn, it sucks too be poor.

jumps just seem to call my name every time we hit the dunes and matter a fact we just got back from coos bay yesterday and had lots of fun jumping.
even though not as much as I used to the front 60 is bent pretty bad on both tubes but its trussed good now so it shouldnt break /forums/images/graemlins/hack.gif

if someone wants to post up a couple of good air pics from dumont for me I can send them over /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

how do you bend the tubes on your axel and still run it? thats crazy i diddent know you could do that /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

your iner axles themselves will get a groove around the middle of the splines because it gets cut on your side gears.

by the time I noticed it was bent (the next morning) it was to late to save so we pulled it all apart and checked it out. atleast it cant hurt it any more now since the damage is done.

I have now been running it this way since thanksgiving at glamis last year so im not to woried. and it is trussed good enough that it wont bend anymore /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

sometime this summer I will replace the tubes and install new axles along with a new locker.

Them guys at Chevy should have put wings on burbans cause they are built to fly! /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif My old burb, a rusty 89 1/2 ton 4x4 (bone stock) saw a little action in some irrigation ditches. I had been through this one particular ditch twice before but it had rained the night before so there was water in it this time. Not wanting to get stuck with my icky street tires, I hit the ditch going about 35 MPH. The ditch was 8 feet deep. I'm prety sure I never touched the nearside bank until my front bumper plowed into the farside bank and started throwing basketball sized chunks of mud onto my hood and windshield. The impact knocked my t-case out of 4WD and my buddy hit his head on the roof (he WAS buckled up and WAS NOT abnormaly tall...).

Second time, I was in my new burb, 91 3/4 ton 6" lift and 36's boggin at the local place. My friend in a stock jeep had gotten through a mud pit to the other side but skirting the edges and was giving me $hit over the CB so I decided to show him how it was really done. I went straight down the middle. There was a little peninsula hump of dry ground in the middle of the pit and as I was tearing ass through the mud I hit the hill and went airborn. All I know is that I lost the horizon, everyone watchin said I got a good 4 feet of air under the front tires, came down hard on my 10 bolt, but no damage. Again, knocked the t-case out of 4WD (is this just an NP241 thing or what?)

I have lost count how many times I've jumped my trucks. The strangest thing I broke was my starter on my 73. I was coming down Comp hill at a fast rate of speed and caught air on the whoops. The blazer bottom out so hard, the front driveline hit the starter.
Another time I jumped my 73, I didn't let off the gas and sheared my teeth off my ring and pinion on the landing.
The most air I ever caught was in my toyota. I was at Oceano Dunes with some people I know. I was jumping my pickup higher each time I jumped it. As the day wore on, I started to take passengers for joy rides. My last passenger asked me to take it easy and not to jump. I said okay and broke my word--I had to get at least a little air while this scaredy cat was rideing with me. After a few failed tries, I finally caught air and I was flying. he was sceaming, and I was laughing my head off. The other people who where there at the top of the dune said they where pointing at the undercarrige of my truck as I flew by. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I must have been 12 feet in the air. The landing was rough, and the truck bounce up into the air three times. I think I must of bounce 8 feet into the air on the first bounce. The carnage was a broken bolt, a bent steering arm, a bent cross shaft and a bent ball joint. I fixed the truck that week and still drive it till this day. I did that jump nine years ago.

I've read service bullitens on 73 GM 4x4 trucks relating to the installation of a longer "bump stop" to prevent the front driveshaft from taking the starter off the block!--seems GM had to replace a few motors that lost the mounting ears on the block for the starter.I think the re-designed the trucks in 74 up models so it wouldnt happen anymore. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

If you look under the later models, they have an "extra" bump stop and bracket bolted to the frame on the passenger side. It's there just to keep the starter from getting whacked when the suspension is fully compressed. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

yea, i jumped mine a week after i got it. got about 4ft of air out at the 420 lake. broke the front sway bar in half, tore the mounts off the truck, and blew the valving out of two shocks. i also did something to the rear suspension, it binds a little bit now.

now my truck is the one that stays on the ground, and recently, out of the mud. /forums/images/graemlins/screwy.gif
