Wes, maybe you should be specific here as to what your question is so that we ALL know whether we can help you or not or if it has to be someone with specific wiring knowledge.
Ok, here's the plan, or more like a dream:
I've got an '87 V30 with factory 454, 400, 205, 60 and 70 with 4.10's.
The 454 just started knocking/tapping. So its been pulled and on a cradle in the corner of the shop. No plans to do anything with it.
I bought a '99 4L80E from a mechanic friend this summer and it needs rebuild. Didn't get anything else with it but the actual tranny itself.
I'm purchasing a '99 Vortec 454, complete top to bottom, with wiring, ECM, etc. but its out of a 5 speed truck.
My plan (dream) is to get the 454 and 4L80E rebuilt, assembled and installed into the V30. This is where I need help with in getting everything wired up to where its turn-key again.
What kind of tips, pointers, hardware, wiring (Painless?), chips, programmers, etc., would I need to be looking into? Would this be too much of a hassle to do this swap or should I stick with the year-specific drivetrain for simplicity?
Basically I'm after the Vortec and want to be different with the truck. I also want it to run like a newer truck, too, so I can drive it anywhere in the nation. I'm too much of old iron to even think of buying a newer truck because I love these old ones more.
What say you? Need more info, just ask.
