Who likes playing the game \"matching\" for overdrives?

I have an NV4500 5spd that will soon be mated to an NP205.

I have a Gear Vendors overdrive that is mounted behind a 205.

I can't make up my mind on what vehicle to match them to...

a 1981 Crew cab with a current 454/465/205 and 35" BFGs with 4.10 gears (this tows alot).

a 1981 Suburban with a current 454/465/205 and 35" BFGs with 4.10 gears but will be getting 4.56's soon. The adapter between the tranny and T-case is cracked, so one or both must be pulled regardless.

then theres the red truck... a '78 3/4 ton 4x4 that will have a 350/465/205 and 3.73 gears turning little 31's. I was going to put the Gear Vendors in this truck when I put it together, but I may not and just run it w/out an OD. Or put the Gear Vendors on it, and leave the Crew Cab as it is.

Based on these facts, what vehicle would you match the NV4500 to, and what would you match the Gear Vendors OD to?

Put the Gear Vender in what ever You plan on keeping and drive the most. That way You save on gas money. As for the NV4500 You can just send that to Me.

Gear Vendors overdrive goes in the 1981 Crew cab /forums/images/graemlins/crewcab.gif with a current 454/465/205 and 35" BFGs with 4.10 gears.
Since this tows a lot you can now you can get a lower gear for better towing and use the OD empty.

Then the NV4500 5spd that will soon be mated to an NP205 should go in the 1981 Suburban /forums/images/graemlins/burb.gif with a current 454/465/205 and 35" BFGs with 4.10 gears. Now you probably don't need to change gears. More gears to play! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

The '78 3/4 ton 4x4 /forums/images/graemlins/truck.gif that will have a 350/465/205 and 3.73 gears turning little 31's. Get's sold for more parts... /forums/images/graemlins/hack.gif

Can't do that cause I haven't even started putting it back together yet. Right now it's a frame and body. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: Who likes playing the game \"matching\" for overdrives?

put the 4500 in the tow rig, and the GV in the 3/4 ton.

This truck NEEDS the 4.56 gears and the Gearvendors unit to split shift /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif You have too tall of a tire for serious towing with 4.10 gears. The Gear Vendors unit will make the 4 spd into an 8 spd and give you an extra gear between 3rd and 4th climbing the mountains (you know how slow 3rd is now!).

This is your people hauler right? I'd leave this one alone and keep the 4.10's

This is the one for the NV4500 /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif 3.73's and 31" tires is a great combo and the OD and small block would put in into a great gas mileage situation (which you probably have not experienced very often).

Sure wish I had all the problems you had /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

Re: Who likes playing the game \"matching\" for overdrives?

I'd leave the Suburban alone, but I need to pull the T-case anyway, and my inner axle seal in the 60 front is leaking... so the gears have to be pulled anyway. The motor in the Suburban because of the cam it has puts out power at higher RPMs, so 4.56's and 4th gear with 35's would help it out for pulling hills (It tows about 3/4 as much of the time as the Crew Cab).

Maybe I'll come across another set of 4.56s for the Crew Cab later. But 4th gear in it now for cruising down the freeway with 35's and 4.10s is just about right.

These ideas change in my mind like every day. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
