I'm shopping for a replacement for my Optima and don't want to by more junk.

Post up if you know who the actual manufacturer of a company's battery is.

O'Reilly Auto Parts - East Penn (Deka)
Autozone Duralast - Johnson Controls
Advance Auto Parts - Johnson Controls
Carquest - East Penn (Deka)
Walmart / Sam's - Exide(?)
AC Delco - Johnson Controls

Other companies?

advance are johnson controls as well as optima. pretty sure carquest is Deka
 
interstate batterys for years with my trucks if that helps you any .

even had 1 freeze for over 1 month . figured it would be dead. removed it . warmed it up in basement 24-36 hr's then slow trickle charge for 24-36 hr's .

few years later its still going strong in my k30 . just fired it up today and plowed snow for 4-5 hr's here in the north east .

I'm on my 3rd warrantied Duralast battery, in 2 years.
Sounds like par for the course.... :doah:

Was gonna switch to the optima red top, but I heard they're sh*t, now.
And, VatoZone is 2 blocks from me and keeps warranty-ing the batteries.

I guess when the warranty runs out, I'll switch.
 
I've had the best of luck with interstate and sears diehard batteries. I don't know who makes the orbitals but they are getting good reviews as a dry cell replacement for crappy optimas.
 
EDIT: Sorry, I run the Super Start Extreme not Premium and love them so far.

I've had great luck with Super Start Extreme batteries from O'Reilly in all of my vehicles...

East Penn makes them, see below...

The battery of choice at O’reilly Auto Parts, and CSK Auto stores is a Super Start Battery. Super Start batteries are manufactured by East Penn Manufacturing. East Penn is well know for their Dependable Deka battery brand. East Penn manufacturing is located in Lyon Station Pennsylvania, and have been manufacturing batteries sense 1946. The Super Start Premium battery has a 12 month free replacement and a 60 month pro rate warranty. The Super Start Extreme battery offers 3 year free replacement and 84 month pro rate warranty. The Super Start Premium battery warranty is nothing to get excited about, however the Super Start Extreme is a very industry competitive battery warranty.
 
I've got Advance Auto's Autocraft Golds in both my Jeep and Suburban. The one in the Jeep is 8 years old and still kicking. Not sure of the age of the pair in the Suburban, they were in there when we bought it.
 
Thanks for all the input guys! I'm typically an Interstate buyer but I have a gift card for O'Reilly's from Christmas so I'd like to use that to save some out of pocket cost. Like everything else, batteries are sky high now. :doah:
 
I used to pick up the batteries from east penn. good looking clean warehouse. Never used their batteries except in industrial forklifts. Worked good in that app.
 
Diehard platinum. Much better than optima or interstate imo. I worked for sears when we tested them and they last really well. They are not made by Johnson controls like the other diehards.
 
I had 2 of the O'Reilly batteries they both died took them back they wanted me to pay 3/4 of what a new one is. Hadn't been back since.

I've got 2 in the Dodge, nothing but trouble with them. Do you have problems with above average corrosion on the terminals and them leaking out of the top? Both of mine are always very corroded and the tops of the batteries are black instead of yellow. I keep taking them back, they keep replacing them.

I've got an older(2008 I think) optima in my GMC. It was randomly going dead, but it stopped recently. Been good ever since. I wont buy another though, mainly after reading the post from the guy from here with the NSX.
 
Another option for Battery choice..??

I run the Odyssey dry cell batteries in both the Sub and the Power Wagon.
They are military style dry cell not gel cell like the Optima's
Bit pricey but very reliable, and can handle being completely drained and still come back to life.

That is how the pro-rated warranty works. After the free replacement period, the value of the batteries drops to 0 over the time listed. 3 year free/84 month prorated.
 
The two Duralasts in my 82 K2500 were used and old when I got in in 2003,and they are not even "matched",one is a duralast gold and the other is a plain duralast...now that I said something,they'll both die on me now probably...:doah:...they have sat idle for weeks at a time,but I only had to chrage them up maybe twice ...I guess they aren't as good as they used to bemjudging by the complants here about newer ones...................................................................................................The Die-Hard in my Ford Contour was old when I got it in 2005,its only died twice after letting the car sit in my garage all year,how that thing manages to still work I cant say,but its a testament to the quality I guess..................................................................................................On the other hand,the cheap Mopar OEM battery that came in my moms '93 Caravan lasted 11 years,before finally croaking...has a Duralst in it now I bought new when that one died,its at least 6 years old already!!.............................................................................................I find its a crap shoot no matter what brand you buy now,my friend has bought almost every interstate battery from junks that get towed in after a crash that are usually almost new,but many never recover after being allowed to go dead and stay dead more than a few days....he has had good luck with some generic no-name ones and some "rebuilt" batteries the local Interstate dealer stocks though...they cost only 40 bucks for most common sizes and have a one year free replacement warranty.................................I need two batteries for my Suburban and my garden tractors...it'll cost 50 bucks just for the tractor batteries,I may try some used ones from scooter chairs or wheelchairs they sell cheap around here at a recycling place,many guys use them and have nothing bad to say about them....been thinking of just buying one BIG 4D semi truck battery ,and put it on a wheeled cart,to use around the yard to jump start things,rather than buy a bunch of new batteries that'll probably sit and go dead anyway..usually I can get one thats got some life left from the parts store or junkyard for the core charge price...
