reason i ask is that i found some axles out of an 84 SRW 3500....60/14FF and the guy says the brakes are in great shape...i won't have the money to swap to disks right now.....and i plan on running the 14FF disks for at least a couple months(till next bonus)

any comments??? im sure they'll be better than the drums on my 10bolt right now:D

With my busted brake proportioning valve, I can skid down the road with my 14 ff...brakes fine.:D

haha...good deal, that's what i like to hear, if i see ya behind me ill be sure to get the hell out of your way man...haha. thanks guys!

I've had drums on my '85 K30 as long as I've owned the truck for almost 11 years. Never had trouble with them. Not planning to swap to disc any time soon either.

Nothing wrong with drums. I run drums on my 14 bolt and don't plan on converting to disks. It's nice to have a parking brake that works well without drivetrain mods and $$$.

When I get my truck running I'll use my drums.

My truck needs a new master cylinder.

I use drums on my 14FF, matter of fact last summer one of my break drum cylinders went and I lost my rear breaks while driving. Man there was break fluid all over the backing plate, axle and tire. It looked like some one sprayed it all over . needless to say I rebuilt both drums, and they work great! Working and adjusted drum breaks work pretty well! I would be hard pressed to swtich to disc.
Cheers

this is why you should carry a hammer in your truck. give the hard line on the axle a couple of hits and no more leaks.

I still have drums on my 14 bolt. I have everything to convert to discs except the hoses. I'm just to lazy to do the swap. whats there works. I might do it sooner then later though since one of the hard lines sprung a leak. I slammed it shut with a hammer. :D I have been adjusting the shoes after every ride. the mud really eats through them. so it might finally be the time to do the conversion.

A set of drum brakes in good shape works just fine in most situations, but I converted to discs just because the drums and the mud and water all of our trails in the area have did not get along. I basically had to pull apart the drums, clean and adjust them after every ride where there was any mud and water at all. Besides this it would eat through the shoes really quick, and it sucks having poorly working rear brakes halfway through a ride.
