So Ive had a couple K5's and my bro just got a K5, and now Im thinking of maybe going with a suburban. Anyone here wheel a suburban or know who does? Any problems due to the vehicles size? Any pics on the trail? I would use it camping, no longer need a tent, just sleep in back of the burb. Easily tow a boat or trailer with my baja bug, and should be able to pull out my bro's stuck K5. Im looking at 80's suburbans, most likely a TBI model. I wouldnt lift it more than 3-4". Gut interior and roll on some bed liner. Short term would be some 33's I can get cheap. Eventually go 4.56's, locker in back and maybe a limited slip in front, and tires would go no larger than 35". Want to keep costs to a minimum, and this would be a beater used for wheeling, camping, and hauling crap.

some guys have crews on sub frames, downfall is the overhang behind the tires, lots of guys trim them down.

I wheel mine and it's kinda like takin a fat chick to a crowded bar:D

yes i do all of the above with mine. only thing keepin me from swapping the body to a crewcab and choppin off the rear part of the frame..... is being able to throw a full size mattress in the back and drink beer while my buddies set up their tents:wink1:

Here's last year before I removed the rear bumper but you can see how the overhang hurts. Last pic just shows that the rear isnt exactly close to the ground but anything a little steep and it drags bad

Hmmm... Thats lifted more and with bigger tires than I really want and that rear overhang is no bueno. Anyway to help that overhang without going crew cab? Maybe trim a bit and bring bumper in closer to body?

yeah it's ~6in lift and 39's. I am gonna trim a lil behind the rear tire to help. Another Burb guy on here moved his axle back to help but its a PITA from what I hear

hey

I wheeled my Burban and then sold it cuz it was like trying to navigate the Titanic down a small fishing stream!. The over hang sucked and left me hangin more than once. Anyway, I sold it and bought my K5 and built it to replace the Burban. To really whel a Burban on small trails you gotta Bob it or something IMO. Anyway I'll PICWHORE and show you the Burban and the K5.

I see. Well Ive had a couple K5's and although I loved 'em and they wheel like a champ, when lifted its a pain in the @ss to get into the back seat and I cant sleep in it while camping. Also Ive found the big burbs cheaper than a K5.

Im not worried about scratching paint or some trail dings. But have you guys had problems with being on the trail and having to stop, back up, n turn some more? Oh and maybe some casters on the back bumper?? :haha::doah: I

Its either this or I go a different route and keep the tent for camping and build a nimbley, bimbley. Jeep Cherokee. Those are dirt cheap. :D

I used to wheel mine, yeah it's long and drags it's ass everywhere, high centers alot too, but as long as you know the trucks capabilities, then it's not too bad.

I basically quit wheelin mine because it was primarily rock crawling, and was tired of smashing in sheetmetal, due to it's size mainly.

It HAS worked out great for the light trail rides to get to and from the good camping & fishing spots for those weekend trips i used to make.

Mine has a 4" lift with 35" tires with sway bar disconnects. those things do wonders :)

Thats how Im envisioning mine. Maybe not so pretty. :D Oh and Ive always ditched the sway bars on my Wheelers. Also Im looking at a lot less rock. Mostly mud, trails, maybe sand n snow.

Great wheeling pictures there. And I didn't know Allen other than liking his username, but he sounds like a helluva guy from what I've been reading about him. The stories had me choking back tears a few times. Sounds like a great friend and great family man.

I don't have any real recent pictures of the Burb, but it's not really "pretty" anymore, kinda why i decided to quit rock crawling it and try to get it back in shape again. that drivers side rear quarter panel is pretty well smashed in now from the last outting I was on with it :p:

Allan was a good guy, very patient person, we annoyed each other often, but never let it get to us, that's what makes a good freindship, i do the same crap to Paul too :p: he's the other monkey in the picture. :D

He will be missed.

The wheel base of the subs are the same as long bed trucks so if they can fit so can a sub.
I am the one that moved the axle back for over hang, looks, and tire clearance works awesome.Yes this mod was a ton of work but so far i have only seen Mine done this way makes it unique and different most people don't even notice it till i tell them. My current wheel base is 135 1/2 it just looks really huge because there is so much body compared to the other model trucks. The back seat compared to a blazer is ten times more comfortable to get in and out and ride in. For crazy rock crawling or high speed dunes and such a blazer would be better but for all around the sub is good, and you get more looks like you are taking that in there wow.
