Who\'s broke a bender?

What Brand?
What Model?
What Broke?
What were you trying to bend?
Had you mod'd the bender? i.e. hydro...
Got pics?

Thanks in advance folks. I'm getting real curious about bender design and I really don't want to get something that I will break...

Re: Who\'s broke a bender?

I've used a lot of them and never seen one break. Even the cheap benders work well if you're smart about what you are doing. One thing to remember is to keep the die lubed up or it will wear very fast.

Re: Who\'s broke a bender?

Well um a friend broke the arms on mine. JD2, fully hydraulic w/ 3x24 ram. A few months ago he was bending up some tube for his cage for the race in a couple weeks from now. For some dumb reason between bends he put a pin in the wrong place and showing his wife how the bender works. Pop, broke both upper and lower main arms like nothing. /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif Luckly u can buy just the arms but they are $120 bucks.

I don't think this is what you where looking for but it got broke.

Bent the pin in the pressure die on an M-Tech manual bender. Then again it took two guys pulling on the handle while beding 1.5" .250 wall DOM. That may have been part of it.

edit-> M-Tech pins are7/8" or 1" (can't remeber which it is)

Was it a model 4 or a model 3 w/ hydraulics?

Just the pin? Dang. Did it deform the holes or anything?

Re: Who\'s broke a bender?

The holes in the dies appear to be fine. The holes in the frame are wallering out a little but that is more of a use/wear thing I think.

Re: Who\'s broke a bender?

Scott at Rock Stomper broke his. I believe it was the pin block on the end of the radius die that broke off. JD2? Not sure, drop him an email for details...

Re: Who\'s broke a bender?

We broke a couple of dies on our pro tools. One was the discount alum. bending 1.250x.250 wall DOM. No surprise. The other was steel but it cracked a weld on the lug on the die. Weld back up, problem solved. Same situation, bending thick stuff. We also replaced the upper and lower plates with their "HD" plates, probably due to bending thick stuff. It was never a problem with more common cage tube up to 2 x .120 wall DOM. Overall we've been happy with the pro-tools.

The new RMD has no such problems.

RMD?

Thanks for the responses folks. In your opinion, what would you do to fix the arm problem? Is the thicker material enough? I've seen some guys gusset the back side of the arms to help with the seperation.

Thanks again.
