Whos running: 3.73+700R4+33/34in tires?

Yeah, but it's not in the title and half the responses he has gotten are from folks with gassers about their gassers...which makes their replies pretty much irrelevant and just misleading and confusing.
True, but selfish me has made great use of this thread as well :D

3.90

I have 3.90's in my ten bolt and as posted elsewhere went with the 33x10.5x15 from a 32...I barely feel the difference at all...I have a stock gm crate 350 with headers and TPI fuel injection. the burb will scoot. 700r4 tranny rebuilt for towing. With all that said it was like that when I got it other than me adding 33 inch tires and a detroit tru track limited slip to the rear. I can cruise at 70 and hit the gas and she will get up and go for a big old truck. it's roughly 1700 rpms around 65-70...speedo is way off. I don't know if 4.10s for me would make a difference though.......

all that probably did not help as posted above you have a diesel...good luck!

I run the 3.73 with a 700r4 and have 32's. Thinking about getting a 4"lift and stuff some 33;s on it too. Running the 32's right now it seems to be a great setup to me.(just the right amount of torque and rpm's at highway speeds) Upping to the 33's I think the 4.10 would be the best choice(overall). Then again it would depend on what the rig is used for. If it is mainly a DD the 3.73's would be a good option for the highway(aside from towing on hills). If it is primarily an off-road rig I would go with about 4.56 for better torque at the wheels.
Another option(which I am considering) is running the narrower(10.5") 33's with my 3.73 just to keep the weight down and baby my poor 10 bolts, and less rolling resistance for better mileage(damn gas is going up AGAIN) Not a hard-core wheeler here. Mostly a DD and use as a hunting vehicle to get back into the woods a little. The extra 1/2" of clearance the 33's give is about all I can afford ATM.

I can not say much about offroading yet but I love the 33 x 10.5 i just got...of course they are new but it did not rob any noteworthy power and tucks nicely under the fender well...but just barely. My reasoning was the same as yours...baby the ten bolt as best I can. took it up to 80 miles an hour down the highway and track straight as an arrow compared to the 32x11.50. only vibration i get is very slight at 65...which i had before but is less now with the new KM2's...and they are much less expensive than the 12.5 version

I,m also have a 6.2 Diesel, with 33" tires and the stock 3.08 and now i,m working on a 79´12 bolts axle to install on it.The gears i,m mounting are 4.10.

We have to pass a Technical inspection every six months here in Spain.
I didn,t make my 33s legal so i have to mount the factory 235/75R15 6.2 Diesel stuff for those inspections.
Well, when i drive with those original wheels the truck does run a lot better than the 33s.It sucks ,looks like a Vespa motorcycle but does run like a cat.

What i mean is that in the end is a simple mathematic rule:

If i go ok with 235/75r15(28.8") and 3.08 ratio
with 33" i will need x ratio

x=(33 x 3.08)/ 28.8 = 3.52 ratio

3.52 is pretty close to 3.73 wich is in the ballpark, but just like Sweet K30 said before, you will want to go a bit deeper that you think you need to go, so 4.10 is your number.

Just my 2 cents

that made my day fellow c/k friend. nice to see such wide spread members. :thumb:

do use a favor fill in your user info. would love to know more of you and your rig.

As for the hunting a 700R-4 can do, it's usually just the convertor unlocking, not actually shifting down from OD to 3rd. If you're curious like I was try this on a nice flat stretch of highway. Steady throttle at 60-65 mph, now use your left foot to slightly depress the brake pedal. That manually unlocks the convertor. I was surprised to see a 600 rpm jump with only the convertor unlocking.

No, the 700 is wired to keep the converter locked at all times in 4th gear. There were various wiring configurations over the years, but they pretty much all have only the brake switch and 4-3 downshift switch in line from the 4th pressure switch.

600rpm change is exactly what you'll get from dropping out of OD (0.7) at 1400rpm to 3rd (1.0) at 2000rpm. I'm surprised to see more than 300 rpm from the converter unless you have a loose one or high throttle.
