why am I bouncing so much?

For some comparison, I have procomp springs, 52s and 56s. No traction bar, and I know both @ashman and I were at 10psi or slightly less on that day.
I think his softer springs might be allowing more wrap in the front which could be contributing to the bounce. He has a rear traction bar.

I will also modulate my brakes when on climbs like that when the truck starts bouncing to help settle it down.

I think this is 100 % wheel hop. The ORD springs are lighter than most lift springs and can wrap causing wheel hop. Get an anti wrap bar.

I did notice the front axle seemed to be wrapping on that comparison climb in the video. I'm not sure what you can do for that with leaf springs.

Are you guys running the same tires?

No, he has 37” Cooper STT Pros, while I have the older Geolandar MTs in a 38

Can't a version of the anti wrap bar be fabricated for the front..? I would think it has to be possible.:dunno:
Or, just see if ORD will cut you a deal on a front link kit if you YouTube the install and results :D

Like a 3-4 episode set-up :waytogo:

Probably the least painful thing to try is shocks. I have Bilstein 7100 reservoir shocks in the front and they've been good. You can buy off the shelf valving or I think you can have them set up special for you. i assume thats still the case, it has been awhile since I got them.

In hindsight, I wish I would have gotten 2.5" instead of 2.0" shocks. Mostly I think this because of weight of the truck.

I've been tempted to try triple bypass shocks. I've talked to a couple shock companies that say they can work well with leafs. I was thinking I could try them and they'd still have use with a coilover link setup.

For what it's worth, this is what my shackles look like.

I was thinking maybe your tires just work a little better for your trucks. Like the tire compound or sidewall stiffness is a better match. :dunno:

Leafs work really well with a bypass, especially if they are tuned shocks to your rig.

Gotta be a little careful about bypasses with leaves for trail use, bypass shocks inherently have less low speed damping because the bypass valve usually pops open pretty quick and that creates an enormous bleed path. You can play around with stiffer bypass valve springs which is getting into the territory where we'd need to talk with somebody at a shock company to see what options we'd have but I know from experience that they are a very progressive system. The way "progressive" transfers to the real world is that you'll bottom out easily on slow shaft speed events but be able to hit ridiculous stuff at higher speeds and never bottom. You'll also have minimal damping of the slow bounces and pitch and roll movements on the trail. We need the slower speed control that usually comes from the conventional shock.

@ashman - getting rid of the hard top is something to consider, that much weight on the top of the rig really hurts climbing. Blazers are particularly challenged by the short wheelbase so any extra height and weight will really hurt as it moves around. Anything that raises the CG will take weight off the front and add it to the rear wheels on a climb. Tools need to be central to the vehicle and on the floor for example. Basically, everything should be low low low. This is why soft tops really help. About the worst thing you can do to a K5 is a hard top and a heavy swing out tire carrier. Both of which are extremely useful for things other than climbing. Pick your poison.

There are better shocks than the bilstein (better valve packages anyway, the bilstein shock is really good) for low speed damping. The 5125 has a lot of low speed bleed and is pretty light on rebound. You could gain some by getting into shocks that are valved different and/or are something you can modify. And/or add a shock to the system so you have duals. Just putting more on there is on the table. Generally one good one is enough and cleaner but if you want to play with it some, just adding something gives a data point.

Next step is spring wrap and anti squat. How is your traction bar set up? You might be able to manipulate mounting points to make it work better.

Thanks for getting back to me @Stephen . I had a feeling weight was a big factor. It's part of the reason I ditched the massiver rear bumper and tire carrier. Before I try anything too expensive, I think I'm going to work on getting another soft top and see where things sit from there.

At the moment, I don't have a front traction bar. I guess I need to look into figuring that out.

I might have an original STC Fast track top... talk offline.

Front traction bar sounds interesting packaging it with leafs.

ORD has a nice 4 link traction bar kit that comes with coilovers…. :pimp:
As much as I've been fighting it, I do think that links are in my future. The problem (other than the cost) is the might-as-well that comes with it. I hate how short the wheelbase is, so I'd like to stretch it, but that means changing the fuel tank... again, plus some fender trimming that I've been dreading for a long time.

You are close to maxing out BYT, it’s only a matter of time until you cut it up or leave it as is and build something else. It stinks but sometimes reality sets in.

This is also part of the reason I don’t have lockers, if I keep going my truck won’t be a truck anymore.

Two pages and no boob jokes? What’s happening around here….:surepal::rotfl:
