Why am I having trouble finding wheels/tires for 1-tons?

I'm starting to get stuff rounded up for my 1-ton conversion (CUCV axles). I understand these require at least 16" wheels to clear the brakes. I'm looking for 35" tires. It looks like BFG tires are unavailable in 35" x 16" at all. They only have all terrains with a 16.5" wheel. But I think that is more unusual than 16"? Discount tire has no 16.5" rims on their site.

Discount tire's site is hard to use but I could find nothing in 35x16 or 16.5 tire.

Interco had a few things on their site, but not any styles I'd be interested in (like radial mud).

Overall 35xXXR16 seems hard to find. Are people going up to 17"?

I have no problem with metric, like meters and whatnot, but specifying tires by aspect ratio is idiotic. You can't tell how tall it is without a calculator. :doah:

YES! The P-metric size of one metric, one inch, and one ratio drives me nuts. Pick one system and use it throughout.

A 31 x 10.50 x 15 is exactly that. If we have to call it a 790 x 265 x 380, that's fine, even a 79 x 26.5 x 38 ... but this 265-75-15 or whatever it works out to is crap.

And yes, I know that In The Olden Days tire sizes were even weirder, F78-15 or just G72 or whatever.

I'm ton'ing mine too. Mine is on rollers while I do body/interior, but when I get ready for wheels and tires, I'm going 17". Clearance isn't an issue and tire selection is better.

Yeah, I just like the look with more rubber. The further I can be from the giant rim/skinny tire trend the better. :pimp:

Yeah, I thought the same thing, but there's not much difference in a 16, 16.5,17. There are quite a few guys on here running 17" Hummer H2 rims on 35s and there still is plenty of sidewall. I probably won't be using an H2 wheel since I want a little less backspace/more stickout, but it gives you a good idea of sidewall size. Here's 496truck's on 35s and H2s:
