if my steering wheel is turned 1/4 to the right to go straight and i can turn almost 90 degrees right but cant turn all the way left do i have a big problem?

You need to re-adjust the drag link most likely. Some more details would help...

New lift or anything else we should know before trying to read your mind?

the passenger side wheel came i contact with a telephone pole pretty hard.

:doah:

Really d00d? You didn't think that was an important piece of the puzzle when you first posted up? If that pole wiped out your rad would you be askin about overheating problems? :haha:

Common collision issues are busted center bolts on the front springs, and bent frame issues. It's usually one or both. Good luck!

One pin broken will do this, instead of steering the axle is moving forward when you turn the steering wheel.
That happened to me one time on a trail, not nice.:o
But easy fix.

thanks, but it couldn't have to do with the gearbox? oh and where the steering column comes out under the hood theres something missing. Its whatever goes at the end of that short sleeve on the firewall. I can shake the shaft

Replace the center-pin on the drivers side spring. a 3/8" socket head bolt (allen head) will do nicely a bit of time and almost no money... DO IT!

Go to a spring or truck suspension shop. They sell center pins for about $3 each. Might as well pick up some new U-bolts while you're there...

Fix the center pin on the side that's busted, add the new U-bolts. Then hit the pick and pull in your area and grab a steering shaft from a Jeep Cherokee and swap it into your truck. Simple cheap swap. do a search for XJ steering swap here and you'll find the write up.
