yeah, huge crack, but the pic isnt all that great, the other pics didnt come out. Thing was thrashed.

Re: Why Dana 44\'s suck

Actually I bought it that way for the 8 lug hubs and rotors, and I have no idea how the guy managed to do this. I heard he had been running 38's and probably got some big air or something.

The total carnage was chipped teeth on the pinion and ring gear, and a blown up axle u-joint that destroyed the ears on both the stub shaft and inner shaft. Axle shafts themselves did not break suprisingly. There is about a 6 inch crack along the backside of the housing that you can't see in the pic. I am taking more pics so I can post 'em.

Re: Why Dana 44\'s suck

Ouch...........we had two major carnage events at the PNWFS4X4 run number 1...........both DANA 44's......one the ring and pinion went south and the other the stub shafts/ujoints grenaded. Be careful with them..........might try CTM u joints too.

Re: Why Dana 44\'s suck

Dude didnt you ssee the april issue of four wheeler? D44's can be tough as hell if you build them up with the right crap.

(I think it was the april issue)

Re: Why Dana 44\'s suck

You couldn't pay me to put a Dana 44 in my truck. I think I'll stick with the Dana 60 for now.

Re: Why Dana 44\'s suck

D60 is the only way to go, esp when running 38" & up tires. When I broke my D44, I was on 39.5 TSLs in 3 ft. of mud. It took out both axle joints, spider gears, and distorted the ears on all four shafts, so I had to use the torch to remove the axles. If you're careful, you can get by w/D44, but I run hard in deep mud and play on the rocks some, so I need a tough diff.

Yeah, I am going to have to get by with the dana 44 for now, so it means taking it easy. Someday I will have to upgrade to a Dana 60, but that is a small fortune /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Re: Why Dana 44\'s suck

Well its people like you have a ass load of money and hog all the D60's and want a ton for em. There are more then enough to go around but all the rich bastards that have "two of them sitting around" want too much for em. Thats my 2 cents for todays discussion.

Re: Why Dana 44\'s suck

I am far from rich. I scored two military K30s for $200 bucks a piece. They don't run but I really don't give a $h1t. I bought 'em for parts. Don't get pissed at me cause I scored a good deal on them. If I did sell them they wouldn't be for a ton. I am giving my friend one for his birthday.

Re: Why Dana 44\'s suck

Me too. I'll even pay for shipping./forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Re: Why Dana 44\'s suck

yah you pay for shipping from Hawaii i'd like to see that bill

Re: Why Dana 44\'s suck

For a free D60 it might be worth it. If I could get it shipped for $600-800 it would be totally worth it.
