Why do YOU hate slipyokes?

I've got a love/hate relationship with them - I hate the slip yoke's inherent weaknesses, but also love the solid shaft - stands up much better to repeated whoop-de-do's/washouts/other torture than a slip style shaft. For another broken slip yoke pic, look here: pugsley.alloffroad.com

All 205's came with a fixed yoke, except for ones made in 1980. and I think all 203's came with fixed yokes. I am looking for a reason to keep my 208. If I go with a 205 I will have to get a 400 tranny and the blazer will be out of comission for another summer, That is unacceptable. I had to go all last year with out wheeling...I think I am going to try the high angle driveline slipyoke CV and pray for the best. Just need a few hundred more dollars

Why to hate:
Long, pain to limp home with (not impossible, and taping a cup over the output probably takes about the same amount of time as unbolting a real driveshaft, but still...)
Fixed yoke is generally more durable

Why to love/tolerate:
Lots of trucks come with them
They work OK if you stay within their functional parameters (angles mostly)
Can cost a lot to get rid of, depending on what other mods you're doing.

On the NP205 only in 1980 idea: We have an '85 1-ton that came with a 32 spl. SM465 with a round bolt pattern input / slip yoke output. We bought it with a service bed on it so you can be pretty much assured it was a work truck and not molested.

Making the world better, one truck at a time.

ALL '80 and later 205s I've seen are slip yoke.

Mine's a '79.
