why does my 6 inch tuff country lift kit ride like sh*t

Hmm well I'm not sure. I have 6" Superlift on my CC and they are supposed to be one of the stiffer springs, but it rides ok...like a truck. It can be kind of jarring off road.

Haha yeah well I hope to get some of both in while I'm there. I'll be there for almost three weeks.

yea **** id dont know i been a tech for as long as i been alive worked for ford for last 8 years and just moved back to help out the pops at his trans shop and i cant belive the way tuff country has treated me ill tell you one thing never again if theyll let me return this stuff ill go diy junkyard lift i was just in a jam and needed a quick good lift so i could sell my 91 toyota to fund my blaze problem is still got the toyota

Do you have the swaybar on? Despite what the lift kit makers tell you, the lift springs are longer than the stock springs and therefore incompatible with the stock sway bar. The only way to make it work is with an extra link, i.e. a sway bar quick disconnect kit. To see how the springs really ride take the swaybar off. There is a good chance you won't miss it.

Do you have any photos of the springs and how they look installed? I'd be curious to see the shackle angle... any chance it's binding against the frame somehow?

How many individual leafs are in the front leafpacks, and what is the thickness of the pack at the springpad? With that information (and an eye-to-eye measurement) I can calculate what the spring rate is for you. Knowing that might help to determine if you got some kind of HD spring setup or other oddball spring.

The EZ-Rides are only supposed to be in the neighborhood of 390Lb/in, the HDs are at least 100Lbs/in heavier than that.

yup, somethings not right here... even at 6", TC's have probably the lowest spring rates out there....

i'd be curious to see the install......

One possible thing you might look at is the bushings if you really hammered the nuts on the bolts you can freeze the shackle or prevent it from traveling much at all. Loosen up the bolts to just snug then go around the block (carefully) see if it makes a difference. This is kind of a long shot but a possiblity nonetheless

Whats the part number and i can check them off my springs i ordered mine through ORD and will bye more sets in the future.

thanks for all the input but alot of the stuff suggested ive already tried. ive loosened all the bolts and just snugged them up a little and the same thing and with the swaybar unbolted from the frame i got a slight amount of extra drop but still a rough ride. the front shackles hang straight up and down about two inches of clearance to the frame rail. since they sent me a 4 inch lift on accident the first time they drop shipped from the east coast so i wouldnt have to wait so i have the old part numbers TCI-2216 and TCI-C6H. from what i can find online there the right numbers.

Thats odd tci is located in west jordan Ut as far as i know il have my part number in a few

Tci 2216 are the rears the tags are finally gone on the front. I ordered from ORD in colorado and the springs ship form Utah but i love them and the pic in my sig are tci ez rides flexed out. They dont ride like four wheel coils but i dont think they are bad. I can push down on a bumper corner and move the springs like two inches.

yea im jelous, i can stand on my bumper and only get 1/4 inch drop

How much do you weigh? Were you standing in the center of the bumper (weight on both springs) or just off to one side (single spring)????

You could probably figure out the actual spring rate pretty easily.

Well, if the truck really settled by exactly 1/4" those springs have roughly a 880Lb/in rate.... that would certainly explain the crappy ride quality.

Are you sure they are Tuff Country and not Rough Country springs? I'm not trying to be a smarta$$, it's just that Tuff Country springs are one of the softest and most popluar springs out there.....and Rough Country have a reputation for being mega-stiff. I had a set of Rough Country springs on my truck originally....it was a 3-leaf front pack (each leaf was almost 1/2" thick) and it rode like a brick. Horrible, just horrible.

A good "soft" spring should be in the 250Lb/in - 350Lb/in range.... and a firmer "HD" spring is more like 495Lb/in. Springs up in the 800Lb/in range are WAY wrong for a truck like ours.

1st off just as an update still no call back from tuff country even after repeated calls. top notch customer service. 2nd i will admit that my ride has softened after some off road use but the front will still lift a tire off the ground under minor articulation.

new update tuff country promised me front springs on thursday and guess what no springs on thursday or friday after an hour of holding they tell me that they are out of stock and it would take another 2 weeks so they are finaly going to let me return the lift kit. what a waste of the last 2 months of my life. so now im looking for suggestions on what to use to get the best ride with good flex and about 6 inches of lift
