Looking for some advice here. Just bought my new project. 83 2500, newer goodwrench motor in it. It runs strong.

I just finished a tuneup which it didn't need and checked the timing. The bolt for the distributor wasn't very tight and the timing was way off. Now that I have the timing correct and the bolt is tight there is a loud squeak coming from the distributor, sounds like right inside the cap. It increases with RPM.

The distributor looks old, I'm trying to figure out what to look for here to fix this. There must be some sort of bearing at the top of the distributor where it comes out of the block? I don't remember from the last time I had one out.

Anybody seen this before? Will I do damage but driving this?

Yep, bearing/bushing in the distributor. If it seizes it could screw up the teeth on the cam or leave metal fragments in the motor.

Cheap and easy to fix by replacing the whole distributor.
