i am in the middle of replacing both the univ. joints in the rear driveshaft. i got the one next to the transfer case in no problem but i am having problems with the one that connects to the rear pinion. the u joint is shaped like a cross. usually all the caps on the u joint are all the same size.. but connected to the pinion where the cv joint is the u joint just does not fit.. does anyone know the reason for this.. i have a 85,305V8, stock 10 bolts, NP208, what is the reason for hte differnt cup size and what do i need to get so that it will fit..please help

You must have some kind of hybrid joint - are you running 14 bolt or another upgraded axle? If so, you've got 2 different cup sizes to deal with.

i had the same problem. i did my rear in march and when i went to the parts store the first time they gave me the small universal for my rear and it didnt fit. when i went to get the right one i went to a different store and the catalog they had said to use the same one that i had, so i made them check another book and then they came up with the right one. by the way i also have an 85 with a 305 and a 4 speed.
