Why should someone pick a k5 over a bronco?

In stock form 80-up broncos have about the same ground clearance as a S10 blazer, poor suspension design, expensive lifts, the eternal plague of crappy ford transmissions, also they are not handsome like a K5. Last but not least , if you have a Bronco, this site may have little use to the perspective owner.

ENOUGH SAID..."THATS WHY" ITS MY HEARTBEAT

I never liked Fords for the NON interchangeability .

I think it depends on what you are talking about. I just bought a 78 F150 and I needed a new bench seat. I pulled a bench seat from an 86 and the only thing I had to swap was the rails from the old seat to the new. The rails mount in the exact same spot. And, I could have gone all the way up to a 96 bench seat and still put my rails on the bottom and bolted it right into my 78 cab. There are many other parts that are interchangeable as well. I can swap a 351C, 400, or a 460 onto my C6 transmission no problem. I drank the Kool-Aid from my buddy who contended that Ford parts where hard to come by. Now I have LMC, Dennis Carpenter, Jeff's Bronco Graveyard, Ford Racing, and many other catalogs that give me just as many choices as I had when I built my Blazer.

Bronco + OJ = Killer.

K5 Blazer + Charles Heston in the movie Earthquake & NRA president = Hero. :D

if im not mistaken you can put a 205 on any ford transmission though. direct bolt up.
i think they have cv shafts front and rear, and have a fairly stout 8.8 rearend.
fairly....

See, Bornco's get a fat ass like a woman does after a while. Just look at the width on that axle. A damn discrace I tell ya. :D :haha:

I would love to see that. A 351M and 400 have a different bellhousing bolt pattern than a 351C and 460.

Ford used 4 different bellhousing bolt patterns. There was the 5 bolt bellhousing used with the 260 and early 289, then there was the 6 bolt bellhousing used on 289 (mid 1965-up), 302, 351W then there was another 6 bolt pattern for the 351M and 400, then another bolt pattern for everything else.

definitely a brand thing.i hate everything ford.the only one i ever owned was a 92 couger.but i bought that for the wife for 200 bucks and she wouldnt drive it so i rode around in it for a couple of months until i bought a cherokee to have 4 wheel drive and better gas milage.i always like the look of the first gen bronco but would definitely never give up my first gen blazer for it.interchangability is the key to the blazers success and chevys in general.most every piece of engine ,trans and transfer case can be swapped pretty simply depending on what you want.axles also.you really dont have it that easy with ford stuff.that and chevys are just plain better looking in my opinion.but its ultimately a brand thing.

Everyone knows that Furds suck. GM without a doubt has greater interchangeability than anyone else, anything from a straight 6 to a 572 will bolt up to any stick, or a glide up to a 4L80. Don`t forget that lovely Twin Traction Barf design.....

My major quams with Ferds are the overly complicated wiring in the ignition and charging systems. Having to hunt down a different tranny for an engine swap is a pain as well, but almost all ford t-cases have 31 spline inputs and 6 round bolt patterns. They also have the 9" rear end (up to 80 model generally) and we all know the reputation of those axles as far as 1/2 ton stuff goes. I'm the first to say I'm a GM man to the bone, but after working on my buddy's F150 for so long I've come to appreciate some of their finer points, even if you do have to use a microscope for some of them.

I don't know anything about the 351C but I do know its not in the same block family as the others quoted above.

AFAIK, a C6 is interchangable between the 351M/400 and 460. Guys doing a BBF swap into their rigs that currently ran 351M/400's only have to change the rubber motor mounts and nothing else.

L&L Products sells the mounts and they clearly list this method. Even the C6 is left alone to fit a BBF.

I've always loved the '73 - '79 Ford trucks. Dentsides, as they're called, were my first love in 4x4's when I was younger. The F250 Highboy is my favorite all-time truck. GM K30's is a close 2nd and then the '78 and '79 F150 is 3rd. Anything after these 3 can be anything that piques my interest but the first 3 are "to-die-for" trucks, IMO.

Well, my 460 is bolted up to the original C6. It fit no problem but there is a bolt that doesn't line up but it isn't critical so it is left out. And the original engine was the 351.

.

Yep, the original owner of my 78 used L&L headers and engine mounts to swap the 460 in. It fits like a glove with the C6 and runs really strong.

The TTB is a pain in the ass to keep aligned but it is smooth as a babies ass on rough roads. When I had my 90 Bronco w/ 6" of lift and a small body lift and my buddy and I would go out him driving his 86 half ton, I would leave him in my dust on bumpy roads. I would be cruising along nice and smooth while he would be bouncing at half my speed with his teeth chattering. However, they are a lot more maintenance and not as simple.

Something went out in my buddies 92 bronco that killed the speedo/abs and tranny shifting. Replacing the supposed part multiple times did nothing, tranny shifted in fail safe mode. Glad my k5 nor my cucv has electronics like that. Plus, id like to see him keep up on a trail with me and not bust up the front end

To me, the only worthy Fords are the '79 and older F-series. Anything newer is pure junk. I might like some of the early '80's F350's but Ford dropped the bomb when they came out with the TTB. Those things are pure disaster.
At work, my "company truck" is a '90 F250 4x4 and we've had it about 10 years. It's been in the alignment shop for camber adjustments not once but 3 times now. When they got bad, you could look right down from the top of the tire and see the lower part of the rim sticking out about 3" compared to the top part of the rim being inboard 3". It was that bad. And 3 times in for repairs. Today as it sits, the camber is starting to bow the tires out once again. I keep trying to tell my boss to have the school buy a different truck or buy a D60 front and call it done. Nothing has happened yet.
