I got a truck on ebay and get asked all kind of questions but this one got me stumped. The guy or girl is based in Germany. What kind of scam could they try with just that number? If it should not be told in a open forum PM me with the answer.

Maybe Germany is like England, cars get sold with plates that are the registration #. Too bad you listed it Worldwide. I always list US only after getting burned more than once by ebay members from other countries.

I took risk selling a camera to someone in korea, but it wasn't a scam and i got my money. I dunno what they could do with the number but I wonder how they plan to get it over to Germany

He may be a number freak. Wants to know everythng about military trucks. I will not sell out of country so unless he sends me cash in a bag ;).

Might have been asking for the VIN, just used the wrong term?
No i dont think so. The vin is there in plain site. The ref number is only 6 numbers long NG1G6U

Is it a German or a US military person stationed in Germany? Find out because a military person might need it to get the vehicle shipped over there.

Ask "dieselponyexpress" he lives in Germany he could know why.
If I would by a truck or car in the US I think I would need that # to get it registrated here.
If it does not have an ID I could not do that.
The ID of a truck here is both the vin and reg#.
I think it´s BC they want to know it´s not stolen or something.
And yes europeans by alot of cars and trucks from you just bring it home on a ship.

I'd check the legality of it as well. The Gov't can be a little sticky about anything "Military" being sold to another country.

Yeah i thought about that. But any 80's model chevy truck can be made to LOOK like military version so dont think they up to any thing like that. He has not responded back to my post of
"Why you want the reg number, If its the vin you want its on the auction"

except for jets and weapons i guess...

its just a truck, either is a scam or its legit, you have to research to find out...

CUCV's are auctioned off in foreign countries to foreign citizens, don't see why there would be any problem with a private sale either.

Thats what i thought so why would he want the reg #. Its different than Vin and he knew where it was at cause he told me where to look. I never heard of it before.

Dunno, I know those COULD be used to trace who in the military used the vehicle, (with the right systems access granted proper recordkeeping) but I don't know what those numbers are other than just a military specific number in addition to the VIN.

I suspect there is some method to how the military assigns those, so it may confirm the vehicle is original (not just swapped VIN) if you can deceipher the RN? Just can't understand why it matters really though.
