I have a 72 blazer with the D44 front axle. the truck runs down the road great, no noises, shakes, nothing. But when I have it in 2wd, front hubs unlocked, and turn hard right It stops me dead in my tracks. first time it did it I was just pulling out of my driveway, I turned rigth and started rolling then it STOPPED. I nearly bit the wheel it stopped so hard. Ive since played with it and found that it turns left just fine. I've looked at everything when its turned all the way to lock and can find nothing wrong with the steering components. If I sit on a flat surface and turn all the way to the right it wont even let me move. Its just like its powerbraked. If I give it gas and then slowly turn back to the left it takes off about 3/4 turn back. I have learned to deive it like it is but this will be my sons first vehicle. Has anyone ever seen this:dunno:

Left side steering stop broke/bent/missing? Maybe it's turning too sharp in one direction causing the tire to bite the spring? :dunno:

My truck was doing the same thing, it wound up being the tranny mount was broke and the front driveshaft was rubbing on the crossmember.

the steering stop is there but it doest quite make it to it.

the transfercase is in 2wd and the hubs are unlocked. I wouldnt think that would be it but I'll check it out cause I'm stumped either way.

Sounds like a ujoint binding. It happened on my truck. And the problems you said seem to be the same as I had. Im not a mechanic though. Plz hope a Pro answers.

Is the caliper making contact somehow and essentially applying the brakes on one side?Bad ball joints causing an issue?Over steer?

I thought about that but I havent looked at the brakes yet. the ball joints and bearings seem ok, I jacked it up to put new wheels on and tried to shake the wheel. Everything seemed solid. As for the ujoint, it does need replaced, but I didnt think it mattered while the hubs were unlocked. I may be wrong on that though.

Mine was obviously more noticeable in 4wd, but it was still there for some reason in 2wd. We fixed that and it went away :dunno:

I had the tranny out for awhile. I unbolted it from the transfercase and pulled it with the motor. The TC hung on the mount by its self the whole time. I wiggled it to see if it would stay. It didnt move much so the mounts probably good. I have to get my kid in gear to finish the truck so we can get it out of the garage and get a better look at things.

Well after a frickin long time, we finally got this thing out of the garage and checked it out further. it appears that the pitman arm is hitting the tire at full turn:dunno: Never noticed it before, but I found that the pitman was loose also. along with the steering box to the frame:doah: Pics to come, couldnt get them in the computer before work.

Wow procrastination at it's best :waytogo: almost a year later. Not that I would ever put sh!t off .

frame dont appear to be cracked, but the bolts were all 1-2 full turns from tight. pitman arm will be done when it gets a lift kit and the body lift comes out

these pics were taken without the tire really moving. just the steering parts. Much tighter stuff mow but still needs work. Drives WAY better

cant remember if its 4" or 4.5". 12.5" wide tire, 9" or 10" wide rim

Okay, just wondering. That's pretty standard. That's what all my wheels are. A wheel with less backspacing would ride further out, but when I have shopped for 16.5" (only size I've ever had on my truck) rims they were mostly all 4.5" backspace.
