Alright guys/gals. Got a question for you.
My wife has been wanting a K5 for a while, and I found her one. It is some what of a project, but at a great price. She is wanting something ready to drive and what she is looking already ready to go. I keep telling her, that you wont find one, exactly like you want, "why dont we build one like you want". So when I find this one she tells me, we dont need that right now, plus it not running and I cant drive it. UGH, I tell her. Plus she is the type of person that puts our kids, me and other people before her.
If I didnt tell her and brought it home, I would probably be sleeping under it.

My question to you. What can I tell her or say to her to make her change her mind? That I havent thought of yet!

I missed out on a 71 blazer project in real good shape for less than a grand, because she couldnt make up her mind. By time she said lets get it it was gone :doah:

Get her what SHE wants.....not what YOU want. :deal:

She wants a turnkey "driver", not a project truck. That doesn't mean that over time you can't add your own personal touches to it, but she's going to need to enjoy driving it for a while first.

x2. Plus if its a project, you will DEFINITELY spend more money on it and a ton of time IMO. Rather than just buying one more expensive that is in good shape. (this does not include buying one that looks like its in good shape, you need to know what you are buying)

It'll e easier to ask forgiveness than permission. Especially when you throw her the keys.

....unless you are throwing her the keys to a non-running pile, that is going to take countless months and dollars to repair.

If you want to buy a project, don't make the mistake of calling it "hers"........it's YOURS.

It may be stereotypical, but when the fairer sex looks for a vehicle, they want something ready to go, reliable, looks "cute", and is capable. With few exceptions, most of them are not looking to get their hands dirty on a project truck for months on end that will become a money pit (not that anyone on this site would know about sinking thousands of dollars and hours into major builds )

If you want a happy wife, get what she wants. No truck is likely to be perfect, but what you can find pretty easily are running trucks that may need some minor attention but are still usable in the meantime. I'd consider it a victory that she wants a K5. For many women, they're too big, loud, gas-guzzling, rough-riding, etc. If she is the type that really puts everyone before herself, make the concession this time and buy what she wants.

I do this all of the time, my '87 has now been a 3 year project and frankly is more apart than ever.

Just buy what you like that way at least one person in the house likes it. :waytogo:

This is what I been wanting to hear. I figured I should get her what she wants, but this confirms.
Thanks all, I think I will save up a little more $$$$ and get her something she can at least drive while we work on it.
I am a lucky guy, she has always liked big trucks and old trucks. We have a 90 burb 4x4 she likes driving, but it is getting trans rebuilt at moment. She also likes the old 64-72 trucks also. She has had a few in past, but has given them up to pay for other things. It is her time to get what she wants and keeps it.

Wifes new toy

Ok all, it is funny how sometimes things fall into place. Searching on craigslist yesterday, if found this GMC Jimmy. Looks pretty good from outside pics. Wife is stoked. It runs and drives. Like you all said, not exactly what she was wanting, but she will be able to drive it, while we work on it to get it like she wants.
We are gonna go look at it this weekend. If it is everything the guy says it is, we will be driving it home.
Attatched a couple pics of it. I believe we will be doing a build thread on it when we get started upgrading it for her.
