Wife's 77 Monza. "The Black Dragon" as she calls it.

Street cars need a wall separating the gas from the cabin though lol.
As this is now, it might as well be a pinto.

Plus when it's hot it vents right into the car, etc.

Also.... Need room for a stereo :waytogo:

Did you try rockauto?
They usually have the option of a loaded tanks.

So, the wife's sister was in town the other night.
And they went to the park with the car, so she could ride in it.

They noticed it appeared to be leaking oil, and drove it home quick.

It appears there's an issue with the motor mount on the driver's side. That bolt hanging down used to have shims between the mount and support i believe.
I can kind of see them but couldn't get pics.

Either way, the oil pan is now resting on the steering arms.
So, fug it, it's down until we swap engines I guess. :notworthy: IMG_20260511_165106771_HDR.jpgIMG_20260511_164934218_HDR.jpg

I did engine mounts, and a starter on a V8 monza @1986.
Not a fun job. Maybe it was difficult for me, cuase I lacked many specialty tools, an engine hoist would have been handy too.

I was looking at the rear wheel area , And really if it was t as high as it is now, the rear lip would have to be rolled already lol.
If we get it 5 lugged, we'll have more options on backspace and chit. Maybe be able to go wider. But it's pretty close on the inside already too.

So....
There's been an issue lol.
The motor mounts had slotted spacers under them, keeping the pan off the steering arm, since the pan isn't a monza pan.
The spacers came out and the pan landed on the steering linkage.
Problems ensued .

The ones showing the wear line are after raising the mounts again.

So. Off the crossmember and pan came.

The only actual monza pans I can find are moroso and summit.
Both are clearly not for street driven cars because they would hang WAY too low.

Took a few things from this mildon pan, and went with it.

Not great, but for what we're doing with it, it'll do.

Gotta clean and leak check it.
And I'm probably going to add a reinforcement piece of like 1/8"-3/16" to the bottom.
Because it's still 3/4"-1" lower than the cross member.

I know the rings don't get down this far, but I seen decent cross hatching still in one of the cylinders.IMG_20260618_133612395.jpg

That’s going to look good.

Got anymore filler primer and paint left over from the burb? :pimp:
Lol.
It's getting pressure washed and painted as is :thumb:
After the bottom gets hammered out and reinforced anyway.
Going to do that tomorrow, then dry it all of.
Support it, and fill it with probably diesel or something. Water can hide leaks. And I don't really want to pour an azz load of oil in it lol.
Diesel I can filter through a paint strainer into the skid loader easy enough. And should be thin enough to find pin holes.

The weld across the hump, was a fast over pass to cover small dimples in my spots.... Yes it looks like ass, but it's not structural lolIMG_20260619_112656214_HDR.jpgIMG_20260619_112659607_HDR.jpg
