Wife's 77 Monza. "The Black Dragon" as she calls it.

It's all ready to go back in.
Just gotta get a gasket and she's gotta clean the block surface..
I'm hoping the gasket is right.
Seems like I remember there being a thick and thin version at one of the ends.

I looked up 3 different years of c30 350 4bbl.
78,83,85 and all had the same felpro one piece gasket number....:dunno:

The front part is still all stock, and what I did has more clearance than that.
But, I figured we'll find out pretty quick either way lol.

There's a thick and thin gasket at the front of the pan. The change was somewhere around '73/'74.

Oil pickup was real loose and easily moveable.
So I cleaned it all up. Checked, double checked, measurements, and dry fit the pan. Then heated the edge of the pump up a little, and spot welded the pickup.

Wife went back to the rodeo, so I only went so far tonight.
Stuff she wouldn't/couldn't help with anyway.

I am going to teach her how to check the oil pickup, then have her check it herself though lol.

While we were at it, we changed the shims they had under the motor mounts to ones with a hole instead of slotted body shims.
What had happened is the bolts were loose and some of those shims came out, allowing the pan to sit on the steering linkage.
Now that the pan has plenty of clearance, it dawned on me AFTER it was on the ground and outside, that we probably don't even NEED the shims anymore lol.
Next time it's on the lift I guess :dunno:lol.

I ordered the new fuel tank a few months ago.it said probably wouldn't ship till July.
It can't come soon enough.
I don't know how people use fuel cells, but no matter what we do with this one it freaking leaks gas into the trunk.
I've tightened some things, and sealed a couple others.
And she said she put gas in it, drive it around town, and it smells like gas inside the car again. So she looked and found it had gas in the trunk again.

Never had a fuel cell before. But after this one, I'm not sure I ever want one again.
