Like the title says, will a 14sf 6 lug out of a early to mid 90's chevy van work? Its a work-style van, a 2500 i think. It has the 14sf rear-end but its six lug. Im guessing its the same that come in the same years chevy pickups. My local junk yard has 3 or 4 of them. I know it may be narrower since the vans are 2wd, but will it work as a good swap for a 10bolt??

Van rears, at least 14ff's are wider then truck rears. As far as will it work, sure, the spring pads most likely will need to be moved as well as the shock mounts, but where there's a welder, there's a way :D

Im not too worried about welding new shock mounts and spring perches. I just wasnt sure on the width would be right. I might go back and measure (shouldve already done that :doah:).

Only reference I found fairly quickly was that they are about 4" wider than truck rears. Problem with that is there are at least two different truck widths.

Post 16 here gives the truck width specs: http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=135125&highlight=14sf+width

I'm running the 68" wide version, and the rear is now the same width as the front...any wider and the rear tires would stick out of the wheelwell, if it matters.

+2" on either side is fairly significant since the 68" axle is already 1.5" wider on each side.

2x4 9.5SF 88 up 65", 4x4 68", vans I believe are wider but don't know exactly the dimensions, better measure. Like dyeager535 says the 68" 4x4 is the same width as the front.

well out of all the 14sf i saw in the junkyard, 1 was in a utility type chevy work truck, 2 were in vans, and 1 was in an actual 4x2 pickup and all of them were early 90s...just from eyeballing them, they all looked about the same width, but like i said, i havent measured yet. I wouldnt think the "extra width" wouldnt look that bad, as long as its not like 4" wider on each side!

Stock 10 bolt is about 65" wide, if a van 14SF is 72" wide, you are darn near 4" on either side.

hmmm, well maybe a van wont work then if its that wide. but on the other hand, 10bolt rear are definetly narrower than the front and its noticeable. Guess its a matter of preference if someone goes that wide. Im def. gonna look into it deeper when i get a chance to get back out the junkyard.

I looked at the door jamb on one van and it had a production date of 1998. The utility truck is a 1991. Both have 14sf 6lug

How wide is a DRW front? Would the van axle work with H1 wheels?
