Feb 4th I'm ordering my motor, and was wondering how to get it home. My buddy has a trailer, but if there's no need and it'll fit in the back of his truck I'd rather do that. No idea how big the shipping crate or whatever they use is. I know the metal containers we get engines in at work are a good 6" to a foot larger than the motor in all directions. Just don't wanna trust a sales rep who'll say ya that'll fit, and come to find out it's not even close. GM Goodwrench 350 in a 94 Dodge Ram 2500. I'm sure it's at least 4', but specifics couldn't hurt.

I'ma go measure the space between the wheel wells later today... after I goto the store I left the truck at cause the ignition cylinder came loose yesterday and I couldn't start it. That's a doodge fer ya.

I picked up my 454HO crate engine in my pickup....no problem...standard pallet..:D

congrats on the purchase !!

Sweet, pallet should be no problem. Thanks, but it's not purchased yet, taxes come back Feb 4th, the dealership said it'll be in the day after I order it, but Feb 4th is a Friday, so I'll see if it'll come in on a Saturday. If so, should be test driving Sunday sometime. :woot:

I bought one, its on a small pallet, like 3' x 3' or so, picked mine up in a short bed 85 toyota could have easily fit another crate motor back there

Used motors are exactly that, used. You never know what your going to get. My rig has had 6 motors in it since 03, all used, all eventually had to get pulled or replaced.

Space between the wheel wells is 4' on most trucks, IIRC. A sheet of plywood just fits.

Winner.

I've hauled tons of sheetrock and plywood in many trucks I've had. They all fit and slide in and out easily.

I've had 4 small blocks in my fleetside bed pickup at once ,hauled them to a swap meet to sell...had room for other junk too!...one wont be any trouble, even a mini truck could haul one no sweat...even a BBC is only something like 32" long and not even that wide, the pallet will be the biggest part of the load!..

Ya that's what I was figuring, but I've never owned a pick up. But did know there was 4' and some change when I measure the Blazer when I put the Suburban bench in it.

Exactly why I'm buying a brand new one. No more problems, no more surprises. It's $1870 something for the 350/290hp GM Goodwrench motor. And ontop of that, the dealership has a military thing where it 'says' uniformed services get parts at supplier prices. So hopefully it'll be a little cheaper. I priced a few other engine builders nearby, and they were all around $2k, but most were just the longblock without valve covers, oil pans, and sometimes no timming chain cover. Plus, can't beat 3 year or 100,000mi warranty. Plus, this way no shipping, no core charges. Someone already wants the old motor to rebuild since it's an old GM Goodwrench 350 4bolt main.

Some pallets wont lay flat in between the wheel wells, but those are the good Sand and Gravel place pallets, they're a bit bigger than your standard ones. If you bring a few good ratchet straps though, worst case scenario is you would have to leave the tailgate down and put the pallet behind the wheel wells. Even the gay little 5' beds that the new shortbeds run should have enough length with the tailgate down that you could still strap it in there safely.

When I delivered parts for autozone, we put two crate motors in the back of the rangers a few times. Fit no problem. Moving the weight with a 2.3L automatic mini truck was another issue though... :D

it wont fit. better let me go pick it up for you. you still pay the bill tho. :haha:

autozone delivers around here with ford rangers. thay fit in those trucks. lots ofthem now use a motor crate/tub. black rubbermaid style box top and bottom. hold more liquid than a motor will hold so incase of aspill its self contained.

 aaa! it will fit.hell you could almost get two in the back of a k5.it's a tiny crate just big enough to cover the engine.i have one myself. and better than used, unless you are gonna re build. GM is pretty liberal with the warrenty also. a friend forgot to put oil in his 502? he blew the rods. so he put oil in it and called the dealer. he had to drive it to them to "hear it". he did and they gave him another!!

'Your friend' huh :D I've thought about that a few times, get all excited about getting a new motor and forget to do something stupid... I'd be pissed.
