Will a 43 gallon Burb fuel tank fit in a K5 Blazer frame with out modifications to the tank? I have a 10 lift on the Blazer so I'm way above the the rear diff but curious if its been done?

Dont see why it wouldnt, Iv put one in a pickup because we had one laying around and the PU owner didnt have the cash to buy a new tank to replace the destroyed old one. We just had to fill it up in the bed, but i bet you could mcguyver one in there no prob.

The 40-41-whatever gallon Burb tank is 35 x 28 3/4 x 13 1/8" according to LMC.

The 31-gallon tank on the Blazer is 28 1/8 x 28 3/4 x 12 3/4", same source. Samd width, bit shorter in height, shorter in the front-to-back dimension if memory serves.

The filler is centered on both, so it would move forward 3-4", requiring a longer fill hose, but otherwise it should plumb okay. A short body lift would likely make things a lot easier.

The largest issue I see is that you'd need to move the forward hangers up about 7" to account for the ~35-~28 difference. You'd of course need the straps from the bigger tank, and I don't know if a skid plate was available for it, so that might need to be custom.

I'd have to go measure, but I don't know that there's 7" of straight frame forward of the gas tank on the Blazer. You might have to get creative to fab the front mount so that the tank sits level.

I have the tank, skid pan and filler spout and door that I would cut in further forward if I want to. Sitting side by side they look to be the same width and the Burb looks about 1" deeper. Your right the tank length is my only real concern? It's getting real close to the back of the rear diff? Just wondering If its been done. Im planning on making the swap if it can be done. :woot:

I had a Burb tank once and couldn't see any good way to fit it in my K5. Basically it has to go forward, putting the front of it above the rear axle. This might work with a big lift and the right bump stops. Plus the K5 tank has a nice taper in the back, helping departure angle, where the 'burb tank would protrude obviously under the bumper. Definately need a skid plate.

An idea, you could cut the floor and set the tank actually inside the cab. Iv seen it done that way to avoid the diff clearance problems. I wouldn't do that on a classy k5, but a straight mud truck sure why not.

Not really necessary... My rig is a Jeep on a 2.5" stretched Jimmy frame.
