Sold my buddy my old 700 out of my 89 to rebuild to put in his 84 k10 but we didn't think about him needing an adapter as his truck was originally 350/350/208. I have some 700/208 adapters at my parents farm and was just wondering if any of you chevperts knew if a older 700/208 adapter will fit the back of the "newer" style 700 that came out of my 89?

It will bolt up but I think the shaft lenght is different.
I had to put a new shaft in my 700r4 to work with a 350 adapter 205 case.
So not sure if 350/208will interchange with a 700/208.

That isn't what he was asking. He asked if his '89 TH700R4/4L60 uses the same adapter as an earlier Th700R4/4L60.

Yes, they are the same.

In your case he can use your trans and his adapter .

For reference for everyone :

The adapters have the same bolt pattern , fit the same trannies , but DO not fit the same crossmember .

To use an 89 adapter , you need the 85 and up crossmember . Which uses a mount with two little studs under it to go into two little holes in the crossmember .

84 and older used a different crossmember . And has the two feet with mounts under each and the long through bolts .

Sorry read the part about it going in a truck that came with a 350/350/208.
Also thought GM went to a 200R/700R in 1982 in all 1/2tons.

Maybe I'm confused. He's rebuilt my old trans (700r4 out of my 89K5) but his adapter (350/208) won't work. So the 700r4/208 adapters I have (one out of an 82 K10 that had a 700/208 and the other out of a 86K5 that had 700/208 combo) will work? But the crossmember from his orig setup (350/208) won't work? Right? But any crossmember out of a chev that had the 700/208 or 700/241 combo will work right? Or crossmembers out of 84 and older 700/208 combos won't work?

Thanks, just trying to clarify

Yes, he will need a 700R4/208 or 700R4/241 adapter. I have heard there is a tall and short adapter and a crossmember for each type of adapter so he will need the proper crossmember for the style of adapter being used. I personally have only seen a "short" adapter though. Now keep in mind that your buddy is also going to need to do driveshaft mods as well since the 700R4 is about 1 7/8" longer than a TH350 (front shaft needs to be longer, rear shaft needs to be shorter). He must also not forget about "setting" the TV cable properly otherwise he will destroy that fresh rebuilt 700R4.

yeah the guy that rebuilt the tranny for him is very knowledgeable (supposedly) but I'll remind him. I'm just trying to help him out if I can and give him an adapter. After that it's on him.
