I was reading that a body lift would give my k5 better flex. I don't want to lift my truck up too high, it will be getting a 6" suspension lift and 37s with trimming, and I was thinking of putting a body lift on it to give me some more flex, what are your guys oppinions on putting a body lift on a k5?

No, a body lift won't give you better flex. It'll just give you more tire clearance. That might be why somebody would say they get more flex with a body lift, because their tires weren't hitting the body any more.

Okay thanks, I didn't really want to put one in, I think I should get enough clearance with a 6'' lift and 37s.

yeah you will..i have a 6" and 37"s on my k10, it looks perfect..if you want a pic there are a few floating around on here since i've been too lazy to make a build thread

Now if you ever want to clock your transfer case flat, you will need at least 1" BL. I've been doing research on clocking and thats part of what I learned.

well it will give you more frame flex/body flex so in a sense kinda sorta, but its not the kind of flex you want. id stay away from body lifts. my k30 used to have a body lift on it, and when flexing you could see the body flexing, kinda scary. but no it wont give you more suspension flex as it has nothing to do with the suspension, its just lifts the body off the frame.

Ok there we go. I never thought it would give any more suspension flex, of course not, that would be absolutely retarded, what I was asking about was indeed frame/body flex. I was thinking that in my head, didn't put it down in writing, just assumed you guys would know what I meant. I read that because the k5 frame is so short, the frame/body inself does not flex very much and the impression that I got was that you did want some frame/body flex so a BL would help you achieve this. Now I am new to this so I don't know the positives and negatives of frame flex but I thought I would ask. Its not like I was going for frame/body flex over suspension flex, I just wanted to know if there would be any positives to putting a BL on and getting abit more "flex". From what Ive read I guess not. Thanks for the help..

You definitely do not want any more frame/body flex! Actually, less would be nice!:D Hence people boxing their frames and putting extra crossmembers, and of course 'cages add rigidity. Excessive frame/body flex can a lot of problems like fatiguing the frame (eventually causing the frame to snap), tearing away body mounts, messing up linkages, etc.

I don't think you'll have any trouble fitting 37's with 6" lift and some trimming. It's gonna look good too! You don't need to do a body lift. Heck, I'm planning to be putting 37's on my 87 Jimmy with about 4" lift, gonna be doing a good bit of trimming! :D
