Will a NP205 for a SM465 fit a TH350?

I recently just got my axles rebuilt in my 1979 Blazer and the shop owner who did the work has an SM465 mated to an NP205 on the work bench. He says he will take 100 dollars for the transfer case (I'm sure it needs a rebuild). I currently have the stock TH350/NP203 with the part time conversion and it runs fine, but was wondering if this NP205 would mate to the TH350 for a future build. I also have heard that the 205 is shorter and will need driveshaft modification to work. I plan on goint to a 700R4 in the distant future. Would it be a good idea to make the purchase?

This 205 is 10 spline input.
The one you need is 27 spline.
If you really want to use it Off road design has a stub shaft I believe that will work between the 2, but you might find the right one for cheaper

No, its not a bolt in swap. The 205 is shorter also, you will need driveshaft work. The input splines are different and the adapters are different. These trucks are like Legos, if you have all the pieces you can swap all sorts of things around, but rounding up all the right pieces is the challenge. You should check out the tech at offroad design. They discuss all the different t-cases and how to swap between them.

Thank y'all for the replies. Like I said, my set up is fine, I just hear that it's hard to find NP203 parts and this NP205 is readily available. I think I will pass.

$100 for a 205 is a good deal. I'd buy it just to have, swap in if the 203 goes down, or sell and make a little money.

Yeah what Recon 78 said. Prices for 205 are high and rising. I'd jump on that just to have if nothing else a good investment.

Shoot I'd be thinking,

Doubler

$100 is peanuts for a 205 round here. That is if you can even find one.

You would need coupler, adapter, driveshafts.
If it's older with the fixed yoke front output, front output shaft splined for flange to run cv.
You could slowly aquire these over time and have the best squarebody t case then you're done

I picked one up for $250 with adapter and coupler for my trans, th350 27 spline
Doing 1 ton axle swap so i needed driveshafts anyway
For $100 you could use it,sell for a profit,or trade it for something you need

I know a lot of you guys think that's a great deal but around me $100 205 is nothing special. Some areas might be different but a 10 spline 205 with the 465 can be had for cheap. I have paid $50 for the pair and $150 for the pair recently. Nobody wants the fig8 10 spline stuff anymore. Most guys seem to want autos or a nv4500 so the 465 is available cheap. A round pattern 205 is the desirable one.

I was also thinking doubler since you have a 203, but that means swapping to heavier axles and that 205 would need machining to work with a doubler anyway. It all depends on what you want to build. 205's are not as plentiful as they used to be, so if you might want one later now is your chance to grab one. $100 isn't a steal or a rip off.

True Hank, i agree that where you are will dictate availability and price.
Where im at they are rare, Illinois rust, and good ones bring good money.
Like you said, depends on what you are building. Always smart do decide beforehand.

I think the rust belt is a bit different, a lot of these trucks have been crushed for a decade or more at this point. I still see rust free squares out as daily drivers. The strange thing is that a front 60 in the rockies is $1000 easy but nobody wants an old manual with the 205. Go to the east coast and those guys are selling the front 60 for $500 and not even getting much interest. It all depends on what people are building and wheeling in your area. I would love a $500 60 but it would cost another $500 to ship it out to me. I think the trend now is a more modern engine/ trans with a doubler or at least a 241 with the lower gearing it has. This leaves the old 10 spline 205 laying in the back of sheds orphaned. I do run a 465/205 in my blazer, I guess I am old school now.

So true.
Wish that trend would bring down the price and bring up the availability in my area!

Is there an adapter to make it work with a 700R4? That's the only way I can justify grabbing it. I 3 classic cars at the house and I barely have room for those.

The stock gm adapter housing will work for 350 and 700r i think
But the 700r output shaft is longer so you need an adapter to fill the gap
I believe you have to do this with either case when swapping from 350 to 700r4
Research 700r4 to th350 swap

This spacer allows you to put a TH350 in place of a 700R4 ,using the factory T-case adapter from a 700R4..
I think you must have a short tail TH350,and chop the output shaft shorter for it to fit..4x4 spacer for TH350 swap instead of 700r4.png
