On a full vert, if you drove it to work and put a premium car cover over it and it rained pretty heavy, would the car cover keep the rain out? :dunno:

only if it says water proof.

And those trap moisture underneath which may cloud the paint on a hot day.

How would you keep it from pooling if it were?

This is the problem. They will keep water out, but you need to check to make sure they are waterproof. Most aren't because it really doesn't allow the fabric to breather very well and can very well ( like Dave said) trap moisture inside.

But with a full vert and no real support it will sag. While that in and of itself not let water in its very hard to get all the water off the cover without splashing gallons of water inside, at least it seems like gallons

I bought a "water proof car cover, not sure on the brand. But it was by no means waterproof.. Finally took it back and got a tarp from lowes..

I've tried this. The best solution I came up with was one of those reasonably good quality tarps from Home Depot or whatever, 12' x 10' I think, and 4 bungee cords.

I throw the tarp over the cab, hook the two front corners UNDER the side mirrors, and stretch the bungee cords around the front of the truck and hook them into the edge of the grille. Then I pull the tarp to the back, hook the left 2nd to last hole with the bungee, run it under my trailer hitch over to the right side, and then up the to right side LAST hole. Then I do the opposite on the right side to the left. Therefore, on the back the tarp is held with FOUR of the holes. It looks kind of like two V's on the back.

This keeps a nice tight tension across the top of the cab to the back tailgate. When it rains the water runs down and off the side.

Now, if you make a mistake and park on a downhill, the water WILL pool on the tarp and it WILL leak through. Be sure you don't do that. Or you don't mind pulling up the carpet to dry it out for a week or two ...

Anyway, the tarp is easy to roll up and shove under the drivers seat. I cannot say the same about a true car cover.

I've heard horror stories of what tarps do to paint...

Yeah, thought about that so i put a towel down on the tight spots where it rubbed. But then again, i just used it to get through the spring outage at the Ferry so I could get my floor pans covered without it leaking.

Hm, well I have a white truck and a white tarp and so far so good ... as far as I can tell.

But really, it's a 20 year old truck, I don't care that much! :haha:
