i just bought a 78 K5 yesterday. on the drive home, the u-joint broke and left my drive shaft behind on the highway:doah:... yeah i know, great luck. anyway, i know i can buy a new shaft for about $250, but i only paid $2500 for the truck. I'm sure i can find a used drive shaft on another model but i dont know enough about these yet to know if most of them are universal. my 78 is 4wheel drive, auto trans. advice, help?

I'd be really suprised if the 87 shaft fit the 78. The driveshafts are not universal.

Go back, pick up your shaft, carry it to a driveshaft shop and have it repaired.

The '87 will most most likely have a slip shaft since it had an NP208 transfer case. I would think that the '78 would have a full time NP203, which had a regular yoke, right guys? You were talking about the rear shaft, right?
