will an NP 208 case crack without anything inside breaking?

So I'm wondering if my case is just cracked on my NP208 because I finished my lift and 3/4 ton conversion today, didn't have the right rear u joint so I locked the hubs, stuck in 4 wheel and put it in drive. Didn't hardly touch the go pedal cause I still need front brake lines but there was no clanking or breakage sound. it pulled right out nice and smooth, there was very little lube in the case, but I'm thinking the case is just cracked and I will be able to JB it and fill it up.
