A guy is gonna give me a D44 out of a 70 GMC 3/4 ton and it has a broken drivers side axle, wrong gears, and drum brakes. I have a D44 half ton out of a 79 chevy and I need to know if my axle, gears, hubs, caliper and mounting bracket will work on this so I'd just have to get a pair of rotors? I am trying to do this for as cheap as possible so I can run all 8 lugs as I already have a 14 bolt for the rear.

If it's an open knuckle drum brake axle you will need, 3/4 ton brake caliper mounts, 3/4 ton hub/rotor assembly for the early style spindles, i'm not sure if the outer stubs are the same or not between drum and disc brakes. It would be far easier to buy the proper 8 lug conversion pieces for your current axle since this way you don't have to swap axles or do a gear set-up and you'd need all the same conversion parts anyways.
