Will Herculiner Suffocate Rust Like POR-15?

Por 15 & Bed Liner

Mikey;

BED LINER WILL NOT STOP OR CONTROL RUST!..IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE ON CLEAN SANDED PAINT! There are many letters in the body shop that may help appease your concerns:)

From practical experience you could use por 15 and top coat it while still sticky with durabak bed liner. While still sticky...put on one coat and let it set up. Let dry for a day or two and finish coating the floor for more thickness.

First a quart of por 15 should be enough to brush on the floor. Cost $32 Use there cleaning solvent & acid prep. Don't polish up the steel...the stuff is strange...a light coat of rust works best. Clean any deep scale & scale.

Por 15 is a moisture cure chemical....

Durabak bed liner is a moisture chemical bed liner....using the 2 makes sense due to there similar composition.

Durabak is about $50 a gallon....it is much cheaper than herculiner.

I have used Durabak, duplicolor bed liner, Morton urethane bed liner and would use the durabak for the application your mentioning.

Get about 2 or 3 gallons for a great thick coat on the inside of a blazer floor sides etc. Make sure you buy the accelerator....it will make the job quicker after the first light coating.

Spray guns? get a 12.99 gravity sand blaster gun at home depot...it's the same size and will save about $50 dollars over a " bed liner gun"

for your information none of the above chemicals are tar or asphault!

Good luck

Carl,
Where'd you find durabak for $50/gallon? That's a screamin deal. When you used Por did you do the entire tub or just the rusty stuff? I've heard it doesn't adhere well without rust, and I don't have that much rust. Also, does the durabak get any softer/smooshier with more coats, or does it still feel like the sand paper samples they sent me?

I got a gallon kit plus an extra quart. Looks like I can get it done with a gallon, following their directions and doing two coats. I am doing (on a blazer btw) the floors front and rear, tailgate, and rear walls. After two coats I see a few areas that need to be touched up, so I could do a third coat but will probably just dab those areas witha paint brush.

On the trucks I have seen before, the texture was pretty rough. It has rubber in it for the texture. I like the non-skid surface though, and don't really crawl around in my blazer anywho.
