OK my fellow burbanites, i got a good deal on a warn 8274 oh how much was it??$000.

Now i call that a good deal, tested it out and she work real nice.
the problem is i have a burb nd i just dont think it will be up to the task, i do trails and mud, and we know how these heavy beasts like to sink.

the question is wil the 8274 work for me? i have a 3/4 ton with plans of a 6" 36x13 on hummer rims and two farly large bumpers.
One up front to hold a pto and be a air pig, and one in the rear that will maybe hide an electric winch, be an air pig, and have a swing out tire/hilift/gascan. on it.


i know i could sell it but i am not sure it it would be worth my while as i wouldent get much for it, maybe it i rebuild it first but... i dant know.

Mine is always getting stuck or sinking :rolleyes:
I have a 1500 and the gvwr is 5600lbs stock so you should want 1.5 -2x the weight of the truck. I know you truck is heavyer than mine so it probly wont work too well if you really get it stuck. Get a snach block it should be better

Was burried up to the frame once is the stickiest/snottiest crap and my winch never even bogged down on me. The 8274 is actually an undermarked(underrated)winch.

hell and a 78 got to have a few 100 lbs on my 88, i though of the snach block too, fact it i would always have one when i get a winch on.

humm this might even be better than i thought.

i wonder if i could trade it for a "strate: stille winch, only because i waant to "tuck" a electric in the rear and have the pto up front, and the 8274 would be a little tall for it, maybe i could make it work.

Might as well give it a shot for free. You won't be any more stuck than before. A good snatch block will do wonders.
 
An idea....

Get a front reciever and put the ol' 8274 on a reciever platform. lways carry a snatch block and tree saver....that way you have TECHNICALLY double the line pull of the 8274, just remember yu have about half the line length.
I pulled my 79 out of Colorado and Gila River mud for 4 years with mine. ANd mine came free with the Burb when I bought it......
The best thing ford ever built was the axles from a Mustnag.... use a hammer and I was out in no time....
I am looking for a 9K+ winch myself. Anyone looking to upgrade and fit within my $300 budget???

Now when you say "it will do wonders" it is all how you use your snatch block. If it is not used correctly it will work as a change of direction pulley instead of mechanical advantage pulley correct?
 
I hear good things about the 8274. At a minimum you could turn around and sell it for some decent money. You ought to keep it long enough to try it out, then you'll know. Free winches don't come along very often.
 
Darkshadow if the 8274 was big enough for my burb you won't have any problems with it on yours:thumb: It pulled out a built Lincoln Navigator on 44" boggers
