I'm looking at picking up a D60 out of a 1 ton van.
The guy selling it says the diff is off center by about 2 inches to the passenger side. will this make a differance going into my '82 K5?
The other question is that he only wants 200 for the setup. That's drum to drum. Does this seem like a good deal to anyone?

Front or rear? Rear Dana 60s are usually 30 spline which is not worth swapping in IMO. Around here 14 bolt FF goes for about $100 and are alot better.

If you do decide on the Van 60 measure the width, some van axles have odd WMS widths.

It's the rear D60. Yards around here want $500 for a 14FF :eek1:.
what do you mean by WMS?

WMS is wheel mounting surface, the overall width of the axle, some vans are wide. I can and have bought trailer loads of 14 bolts for $20-$75 each. I usually don't buy them unless they are 4.56 Detroit or C&C.

The yards around here want about 300-500 for a 14bff too.

The locals parting out trucks here want anywhere from $0-$150 for the same thing.

Junkyards are in business to make money, even if they have to sell the most common LD pickup rearend at 5x the price that the market will actually support. Don't let them take advantage of you. My local pick n pull sells chevy horn units for more than they are new at NAPA. If people put there will pay them full price for used stuff, they will do it.

I think the stock rear WMS for k5s was 65"...it's posted everywhere and I'm sure someone will pipe in and confirm. Vans axles were sometimes narrower than the rest of the rigs. I wouldn't waste my energy swapping out anything less than a 10" ring gear personally. Full floaters are so cheap and common in the places I live, and they bolt right in with little to no modification.

The guy is supposed to measure the 60 for me tonight. but i think i might just keep the eye out for a 14FF.
the yards here are deffinately rediculous on their prices!!!

Im running a rear 60 in my truck with 38's and have not had any problems with it. Im not easy on anything I own and if I break a shaft Ill swap some alloy's in.
