True, I never thought of that. Wet beaver can sometimes smell fishy....

Hmmmmm. Back to the drawing board on that one. Too bad, I was looking forward to seeing if the beaver could handle a screw and the odd nailing.
 
what this grease you speak of? I figured I didn't need this when I did my 6 to 8 lug conversion today. I just didn't see the point in getting my chrome hubs dirty. I highly recomend you use marine grease on the garage door though as it is highly resistant to water. This is also much easier than just useing a simple weather seal in my opinion. I would rate this for a two person house hold however, as boats are only used seasonally so you should cut the garage door usage in half just to be safe.
 
No no no, you've got it wrong dude. Marine grease is for jarheads, not garage doors. I found a place on the net that recommends F-4 Phantom grease for the garage door gears in the summer, but during the winter, one must use Boeing 767 grease. Now this all changes if you live in a harsh climate, this website recommends M-1 Abrams track grease.
 
Another thing to look at here that I have not seen addressed is the issue with the lifting arm that connects the operator track to the top section of the garage door. On some models, this arms will significantly reduce the overhead clearance of the door when pulling in a tall vehicle. Getting mine into the garage can be a challenge. I have to install small tires, and undo this arm before the vehicle will fit into the garage. Please review the following pic:

You may also note that I do not have newer Vinal siding, nor do I have aluminum siding. It is the older style of siding that was used in the early 80's and even with those drawbacks, I am still able to get my vehicle into the garage.

On another note, using a think grease in the chain track might not be a good idea. The grease will attrack dust and grit and get grimey after some time. Also if the garage gets cold, It can become difficult to use. That is, if too much grease is used. I remember one time when I had to clean up a track because it had basically jammed up with so much grease. I went through several bottles of WD40 to get it all out. Now it doesnt work to bad at all. What I really need to do is too change out the doors themselvs. they are that older style of fiberglass door with the extension srpings. Now and then the springs will break and shoot accross the garag like a crazy snake and scare the hell out of everybody. It also likes to jump the tracks. I am hoping that I will get enough back in taxes this year to be able to upgrade the doors into something much nicer with the better style of springs. We'll see. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
So you suggest I use Marine grease? But a topic that has not been covered is carports. Should I grease the supports and cross beams, or will my truck slide in just with ghetto wheels. Also, what are your opinions of KY? /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Ised to have a light bar up on the roof but it seemed like branches and trees were always hitting the lights and throwing them out of aim. the wireing was also kindof a pain.
 
I think the real question here is ghetto rims and tires WILL IT FIT the overall look of my blazer please for goodness sakes lets stay on the topic of this thread /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Sandman, did you try painless wiring?
 
it's not so much looks. what you want is performance so it is the way to go no ifs ands or colons about it.hope this helps
