Will paint damage heims?

I'm in the middle of painting all of the tubing on my Blazer and I'm too lazy to take the suspension apart so I just taped up all of the heims, shocks, airbumps. I was just wondering if I was correct in worrying about getting paint on the heims, will paint do damage to them?

It can cause more scratching on the ball's surface. This can lead to pre-mature wearing. That and painted hiems are the sign of a lazy person IMO.

That's me I did tape them off though. I'm not that lazy.
