i cant believe i forgot to put this back on--1/2 ton sub-both sides , fronts-outer axle shafts large plastic washers-they go on the shaft after the larger dust or dirt or water shield ring thing-it doesnt affect my 4 wheel but am i looking at poss water or mud getting in---the plastic washer is only about 1/8 thick- i dont get to do any muddin-but i do like high water--any thoughts or info--Thanks

i will be putting them back .

i just didnt want to jump right back into it-[snow and rain showers]need to drive it ----the burb is calling for me----ill just keep out of 4wheel,should be ok[i think]---and also high water.

I would not drive it with those thrust washers missing. There is a good chance of the axle rubbing on the backside of the spindle and damaging the spindle, axle, or both. :deal:

Also, those washers from the factory were bronze and the aftermarket world got cheap on us and only supply plastic thrust washers now. I always try to grab the bronze ones from the junk yard and use them over the plastic ones.

burb 1990 -241 w/manual lockouts

it shouldt be bad to drive with none of the front driveline activated-im more worried about contaminats---but thanks for the heads up on the bronze washers,im trying to locate some as of now-

Lol a couple days late but why did you bother asking if your just gonna tell people nah theyre wrong it will be fine when they answer your question?

because

i didnt get an answer that would prevent me from using the vehicle . i just got an answer that would prevent me from using 4 wheel[fronts]-so now i know not to use the fronts till those parts are back in because the axles may move and poss damage some surfaces, and the other guy is being cautionary because he doesnt want to see my ride get more damage[i would hope]----unless you have another theory about how that washer affects my 2 wheel i will be glad to listen[read]

front tires still spin in 2wd don't they? I dont think it will matter if you put it in 4 or not but sounds like you already made up your mind.

i forgot a thrust washer in one side and ended up binding the ujoint when I turned the wheel all the way in 4x4 and broke the ujoint and elongated the inner shaft ears.

yup !

thats exactly right--in 4 wheel -not 2 wheel-the washer im missing has absolutley no action unless i engage my front axles-it sounds like you [305]know this but some others dont-i wish these guys would have experience or find out [like the site is for--]before commenting--just like i did-i am no expert, but givin the correct info [usually from this site]i can fix most all of my probs

so you know -where this part is and its function? or are you just jumping on someones bandwagon. GSXRmike--you know were talking about 1/2axles not 3/4-there is no actuation of this part without moving axles

I don't know anything really, never turned a wrench even. I was more asking a question than anything. Sorry for trying to help! I guess I will find a differant thread to jump on someone elses bandwagon.

Yeah until fixing it next week turns into next month, then into 6 months, then you forget and engage the fronts. Just fix it already and be done with it.

Yes the front tires "spin" in 2wd BUT the front axleshafts do not if the hubs are unlocked.

As long as he DOES NOT put it in 4wd he will be ok driving the truck, however without the washer it will allow dirt/water and any other contaminants to enter into the backside of the spindle area.

Thanks

thanks HIGH for the extra clarification,GSXR come on -i seen your stats -and i know you know your stufffff,i just dont like being punkd on unless i truly deserve it.
