Thanks for the offer, very cool! But 14 hours round trip + gas I'd rather pay a few hundred locally. If you are close to the Alabama coast I've got a 3rd row seat I'll give you.
Once upon a time on a different forum, a guy posted these seat mount plans before Merrick started selling his. These plans were free to anyone that wanted them, the MG bracket looks very similar.![]()
Any recommendations for buying 6" flat stock?
Now that you showed me those plans I'm realizing how easy these would be to fab up myself. the big box hardware stores around me don't carry 6" wide stock. I found this for $72 shipped (cut in half, 2 X 60" pcs)
As far as I can tell they're double the price before shipping to FL. Maybe I selected a high grade steel or somethingI use https://www.onlinemetals.com/ but they are based in Seattle, WA and shipping will likely not be great going to FL.

I would have never guessed prime has steel stock. Checking nowI’m sure it’s chinesium quality but Amazon has ok prices on pieces of metal. If you or someone you know has a Prime membership it probably will ship for free.
I agree with all of that. I'm literally estimating $100 in steel shipped and 5 hours of fab time (for an avg joe like myself). Merrick's are $600 shipped (raw steel w/o powder coating). So assuming $100 in shipped mats, that comes to $100/hr for my time. Only after doing that math I decided to fab this myself instead of buying from Merrick, who I think is an awesome guy that sells great products and I don't think he's overpriced at all. It's just that I have all the tools and I'm confident I have the skills to fab something simple like this myself.Just search for metal suppliers near you. There is bound to be one you can walk into with some dimensions for rough cuts and get all you need within a couple days. If not, then there are lots of metal suppliers online that will sell common lengths of flat bar or do custom cuts at your specified length. Steel is expensive though, so don't get your hopes up of doing this for 1/10 the price of MG. At a half assed guess, you are looking at $100 in steel and quite a few hours of fab work for the average joe. Like everything else, it's only cheaper because you aren't paying yourself a wage.
Those plans omit 2, .5" dia x 48" solid rods, correct?Once upon a time on a different forum, a guy posted these seat mount plans before Merrick started selling his. These plans were free to anyone that wanted them, the MG bracket looks very similar.
