I have had an issue with my 1991 suburban stumbling and dying on me. Engine has 177,000 miles and is stock, have minor mods, k&n air filter, TBI pod spacer, the salad bowl air cleaner mod, a high flow cat into a 3 inch single exhaust. Sometimes at idle it will stumble and recover and other times it dies, also sometimes under throttle it will have the big hesitation and continue running but once in awhile it will just die. Sometimes it will set the 42 code othertimes no SES. IF it dies you can smell rich gas and have to put the throttle to the floor and crank a long time to restart. And then on other days it runs like a champ. I have done the following:
Replaced timing chain, seemed to fix issue for 2 weeks then same old. Replaced distributor with new that included new ignition module. new plugs, wires, and rotor and cap. Did a new ECM too. New fuel pump relay and oil pressure swithch. Fuel pressure is 11.5 PSI last I checked few months ago.
Fixed vacuum leak between TB and spacer 2 times and finally pulled spacer and went back to TB to intake finally it is staying fixed. I also ran new grounds from the battery to the firewall, and to the frame rail, also took off and cleaned all the other grounds. Base timing is 2 BTDC with the connector pulled. All sensors are new within 3 years. Also replaced the injectors 5 years ago. They seem to have a good pattern but I see some dribbles once in awhile. oh and the EGR and charcoal canister are I do have a short somewhere in the dome light and horn/ciggy lighter power circuit I have not found yet too, not sure if that is contributing.

I have a couple winaldl logs could someone check them out? I have searched and read for days but really have not found enough data to know what I am looking at. Can't seem to attach the logs?

Thanks
Tim

Could you please finish the EGR statement above?
Have you tried disconnecting the EGR and plugging the hose to see if the idle improves?
Can you post the 2 screens shown below from my Jimmy?

I would like to know how you got winaldl to work on the 91? I have the same vehicle and can only use datamaster.

x2 on egr info.

I built the cable using the instruction from TBI chips. Down loaded the latest version of WinAldl from the web. Installed on my XP laptop and hooked up the cable to the serial port and I had data streaming

I read how to do attachments in the FAQ but I only get the option to insert links no matter what I try do you have to be a paying member to do attachments?

I can't help with your original question...but for the attachment thing, what format are the log files you want to attach?

So I took the IAC off today and took it apart and cleaned it. Re installed and set the minimum air. Pulled the 2 ECM fuses to reset ECM and took for a 20 minute drive. Did a data log and have sent to another member who offered to help out with posting my data. Idle is a little faster and the TPS voltage a little higher. IAC # is now 63 tho so not sure if I need to put more miles on it to complete re learn but it did not die or stumble tonight.

Also I have an extreme EFI, TB that I bought a couple years ago. it is one of the over bored ones I think the 48mm one. I really don't have enough mods to the engine so I took it off a couple years ago. I wonder if the stock TB throttle shafts are worn out and have small vac leak. If I go back to the oversized TB will it cause me anymore heart ache than the stock one if I set minimum air for it after install?

its a 46mm bored one so pretty mild

I would leave the stock one on for now and see if cleaning the IAC fixed your problem.I had one of the bored out tb on and it didn`t seem to make a difference .It looked cool.I went through a bunch of wierd idle ,starting problems when my IAC was dirty.Cleaning it fixed most of my problems.I would get hard starting, different amount of time it took to crank over and run or start then die then start and run the second time.I eventually replaced the IAC.and it took care of alot of intermitant problems.I guess it was just worn out. When you are in open loop before the oxygen sensor is warm enough to show voltage idle. The IAC trys to control idle speed by openning and closeing the valve to richen or lean the mixture to reach the idle speed called for by the prom.63 would be a good number 80 or over or a zero would be a problem.your throttle voltage should have not changed or changed very little unless the linkage was sticking or throttle shaft were really worn.

No worries thanks for helping me out.

Just to add a little more data, this morning the suburban would not high idle I had to keep my foot on it to crack the TBI open just a little or it would die for the first 3 minutes then it would idle after that.

Once it was warmed up it idled fine on its own but the IAC values are now 60 to 79. So I either have a worn out IAC or I need to open up the butterflies on the TB a little right?

So I opened up the butterflies and now the IAC valves are 7 to 15 at an operating temp idle in gear. I will drive it again tomorrow and datalog it to see what kind of values I have now.
