There is this power lane close to my home, and I'm thinking about giving it a try with my K30 :D

The problem is there's no trees (for obvious reasons) to attach the winch-cabel to if I get stuck...:doah:

So I've been thinking about building a winch anchor.
I've found some pictures on the internet.
But its hard to get a feel for the dimensions of them.

Does anyone here have any experience of these?
Do they work?
Any advice about building one?

I've always just used an old axle. Just drive it in the ground at a 45* angle away from your rig and hook the winch cable to it where it meets the ground. It's gotten me out of some serious stuff more times than once.

What happens when it comes lose?

I know of a guy who used a real honest to god anchor off his boat.
It was a big fluke type. Rated for about a 25 foot boat. He had just bought it and was taking it to his boat when he got sidetracked and then stuck.

To keep from walking out, he hooked the anchor to his winch hook, set it in the ground past the bog, and started winching.
After he got out, he had to dig for about 30 minutes to find it, it had gone so deep.

But, he got one with the eye on the opposite end which is for pulling a stuck anchor out backwards.
He put a length of chain on that eye, and a length on the regular hookup.

Now, when he gets stuck, he hooks the winch to the regular end and pulls himself out.
Then, he unhooks from the one chain, hooks to the other and winches his anchor back out.

What you are thinking about building is better, since the bar stops it from going too deep, but his idea works too.

Use a boat anchor, and weld some plates to teh cross bar to keep it from digging too far....maybe.

Or get a 30-35' boat anchor. A 25' one isn't that big....

Using a boat anchor sounds like a good idea.:waytogo:

I found this one in a Swedish web-shop

It doesn't say what dimensions it has, but it weighs 15kg (~33lbs) and costs about $70.
I think 33lbs sound a little weak, but I think I'll take a trip to one of their stores soon and check it out...

Hmm...maybe if I throw some scrap-metal at it...
