Friend of mine got tired of hitting his winch on the rocks, so we cut his big ol bumper off and relocated the winch higher and behind the grille basically heres the pics. If we modified his fairlead mount we could move the fairlead back another 2"s too. I don't think he is gonna hit it much more

I did exactly the same thing a few years ago. One of the best mods I ever made. Even with the winch moved, I still hit the roller fairlead on many occasions.

I have since switched to synthetic rope and a hawse fairled (WAY better clearance than a roller fairlead) and have only hit it a couple times.

You can use a Hawse fairlead with cable (I think), so that is an option if your friend is looking for more approach angle.

did you take any pictures on how it was mounted???

not really I only had my phone, basically we just spaced it up on the frame rails using some 2x4 .250 wall tube, braced the frame with 2" square .250, we used his orginal winch mounting plate which was home made. With some additional braces in the middle of the winch plate tied to the frame brace.

To get the winch out you have to remove the hood latch.

It is welded on not bolted
