I decided to try my hand at building a winch bumper. I have some experience welding but am more of a grinder! First time using flux core wire also so the welds are a little ugly but the bedliner paint helps hide that for me. Let me know what you think. I am planning on adding a brush guard of sorts later just not sure which style.

3 x 5 angle for the mounts. I slid them back as far as I could over the frame. Going over the frame, instead of inside the frame channel, the 3 x 5 angle fit about as perfect as I could get.

Pretty good other than that fugly license plate

Come on now! That's custom too. I might try some sort of recessed mount for that when I do the brush guard. Until then Jersey requires a front plate so if I want to get it to the woods I have to put it somewhere.

Nice, here's a couple of brush guards, for me I really like the stinger style and classic square looking brush guards:

I was talking about the black stripe. Looks terrible

Yeah I know what you were talking about. That is why I said it was custom too. I thought it was a good match though.

I think I am leaning toward the custom square style I think. Not much of a fan of the stinger and I don't think it goes well with what I started either. Thanks for the pics. Always good to have more references.

I searched more on the bumpers and guards, and actually there are few ready made solutions for k5, you can check them on this link (deleted)
It's not everyone's cup of tea of course, and some things are easier to fabricate DIY if you got the resources, but it's a pretty good alternative.

well I ended up not doing it to the front of my bumper but when I had a winch mounted between my rear frame rails I just put the roller fair lead through the double tube. worked great.. i visioned doing the front the same with a 10.5k hydraulic up front but never did...dont need a winch to go to the mall...

p.s. looks good man!
